Catch the train to Broken Hill, and go on tours from there. Plenty to see/do and an easy taste of the NSW outback without having to break the bank if a first time view.

7 days is not a lot of time, but you could consider Kinchega and Mungo National Parks close to Broken Hill. To make it a memorable trip stay in the shearers quarters at both locations. You will need to book through NPWS. Menindee lakes should have some water in it now.

I have done this trip a couple of times and every time it is different. Depending on time you could also visit Silverton.

Given the rain we have had check to see if the roads to the Parks are open.
Enjoy

I know it's not a long time, we had 2 weeks planned but Stella had to cancel a wek of it due to work commitments. Will speak to NPWS and see about the roads. Thanks for your help.

That's a bloody big area. Where are you starting from? What are your interests eg history, scenic, etc? What are you driving? Do you prefer to take it easy or go like a bat out of hell and see as much as possible? Mate - we need a bit more info.

Moose your right
The corner country + is a BIG area to travel.
To see it all would take weeks maybe months especially if you get stuck in some of those outback pubs !!

I think the others have it covered by now.
BH is a great area but a fair hike from Sydney - unless you enjoy driving heaps and seeing little you may want to consider something closer.
Have a look at www.visitnsw.com.au and check out the "Heart of Country" section - not quite outback but a lot closer to home.
Good luck and have a safe trip.
Cheers from the Moose

Tony, have a look around on this site.
Outback NSW

Don't know where you are starting from, but Broken Hill is closer to Melbourne than Sydney. 800 from Melbourne, nearly 1200 from Sydney.

Mungo is only just over 100kms from Mildura, and the last time I was there the shearers quarters had burnt down.

Tony,

The Darling River Run or Kidman Way would be a couple of options I'd look at.

we did a 2 weeker from Sydney passing thru orange, parkes, condo, hillston, ivanoe, menindee, broken hill (hi Dave.B), mutawintji np, tibooburra, cam. corner, white cliffs, wilcannia, cobar, nyngan, dubbo.

it was great. so for 1 week, do a loop to Broken Hill and back.

as the roads are all pretty good, you could even just look at a map and look for your own loop; you won't run out of interesting places to see.

A wonderful region and a great time to be going - I have been out there 3 times this year.. and so much of it is so alive - lakes, rivers, etc.

Heading to Wilcannia and White Cliffs on monday - so will be good.

Here are a couple of websites that may help.
