Hi there, we were hoping to take a three to four week trip in September/October this year.

Our initial plan was to do the Darling River Run with another couple and their kids but they may have to pull out.

We could still do that trip but would prefer to hold off until they are able to come with us.

So are ther any suggestions for another trip. Last year we did far north queensland so are not looking at a coastal run.

Have thought about going to the Rock but or doing inland QLD but not sure if that time of the year is too hot.

Any suggestions would be appreciated?

can recommend dinosaur trail (Triangle route)in central QLD? Then Winton and dinosaur tracks near there? Lark Quarry? then Porcupine gorge? then Mary Kathleen near mount isa? You may only have time to do eatern parts of Savannah Way? Lawn Hill? Cobbold Gorge and surrounding areas? the whole Savannah way is great. We did all this in 2006 awesome!! Anyway just some ideas for you. Where are you starting from?

Flinders Ranges is nice that time of year possibly looping around the Strzelecki track, Innamincka, Tibborburra & Broken Hill should fill a month in depending where you are from.

Hi There, not much info to go on (4x4 or road, start point, vehicle, kids etc). September is still a good time to be in the middle of Oz.

A good trip (4 weeks) is, from the south, the oodnadatta track north to Alice (via the Rock, Kings Canyon, West Mac), across the Plenty Hwy to Boulia, down the Birdsville track & the the gibber flats to Maree.

Did it about 4 years ago (there is lots to see & do on the trip).

Hope it helps

Cheers

Hey Jason, good points you make....sometimes you forget that everyone does not know about what you have or want...lol

We will be leaving from our home town of Newcastle NSW. We have a Disco TD5 and will be towing an All Terrain Camping Trailer and have a 14 and 11 year old with us.

Hey Cram - you have the same vehicle & trailer us - we dont have the kids though :-)

I would still suggest the same trip but in reverse & spend most the time in the West Mac's & Marenie Loop rd.

Cheers

Sounds good Jason, will have a good look at what you suggest. I have been looking at the temps for the area at that time of the year and I am thinking that it would be very nice.

Yeh - Good time of year. We worked in Alice for 2 years in 2000. Nice place & fantastic scenery around the area. West Mac's are beautiful & so too Rainbow valley & Ruby Gap (East Mac's).

We are off on a 3 month trek from Brissie, Cairns, Isa, Alice, Rock, Meeka, Coral Bay, Broome, Kimberleys, Tanimi Track, Alice, Simpson, Birdsville Races. Starting end June - Looking forward to it.

Enjoy your trip which ever way you go.

So much to see (and all the time in the world to see it :-)

Cheers
Jason

Cram,

The centre in September is good. We did it in late Sept early Oct and got a few hot days but mostly it was pretty good.

We were lucky enough to be able to meet up with another family and travel home across the Simpson.

We had 3 weeks and that was plenty of time for a pretty good look around but then home was Broken Hill at the time. If you are coming from Sydney or Melbourne you would have to add maybe 4 days to that.
