Empty tank(s) then refill with fresh water, add half a cup of plain bleach (white king or similar) go in van and open each tap in turn till you can smell the bleach, then close tap . Do this to all outlets!
Then fill tank up to brim again, leave overnight ,then empty out tank again and flush with fresh water run all taps till no bleach can be smelled then re fill tank and water will be fine.
We had "gardia" bug in our tank from some suspicious
water supply in
Broome, It nearly killed my wife and she spent a week in bed, and this how we were told to clean out tanks and hoses etc.
Never had any problems since and we prepare our tanks this way every year now.

Hi Scotty
go to a
home brew
shop and buy some keg and line cleaner and follow the instructions, this will dissolve everthing then rinse.

I'm not sure about this Mattie.
I tried this and was advised by the store owner that the line cleaner actually needs a continous flow to work it's wonders.
I settled on Milton's Baby Bottle wash from the supermarket because it gives you the amount to use per litre of water.
From memory, 50ml per litre.
Swimming pool chlorine (liquid) is cheaper again, but is harder to work out the quantity needed to disinfect a
water tank.

and once your tank is clean and refilled with water, you could always drop in water purifying tabs avail from your local pharmacy, or even better still run your drinking water through a filter
unit - both will take care of dicy h2o.
cheers
