Gazza
Folks, We are travelling north to
Cairns this weekend via Cowra,
Parkes,
Bourke,
Barcaldine,
Hughenden and the Lynd. Given the safety constraints of heavily loaded 4WD's what sort of speeds are feasible on the blacktop and how strictly are the speed limits enforced??

Gazza, can't help you there, but apparently there is a "severe weather warning" for QLD coast from about Fraser Is up.

You wont find much traffic from
Hughenden up through th Lynd but be aware school holidays start in QLD on Monday and the police really toughen up during these periods. Don't expect any leeway if you get caught speeding during a holiday break. Cheers Rob

Gazza I've found NSW cops to be pretty fair on the 10% rule, ie don't break the limit by more than 10% and have found QLD to be a bit stricter as above though school hols means crackdowns in all states so be careful what's 5-10 ks?
As to feasibility it depends on what fuel economy you want - in the NT on good highways I regularly do 140

Just did the trip nearly to
Hughenden. Most surfaces are good. Some of NSW has pretty worn surfaces.... As always match speed to conditions. I sat on around 100 all the way... got to where I was going towing an offroad trailer, in good time.
Cheers RoyceRoyce www.funshow.com.au

Gazza,
We are seeing mobile cameras down as far as
Boulia, so I'd imagine they are going to be much more prevalent along the route you are taking. Except maybe up the Lynd.
Passed one last Sunday, just out of
Boulia, doing 105, and wasn't stopped. But they were on the way back to the Isa.
Augathella to
Barcaldine is all 110k's. hooroo...

BTW, I had a great
pic sent to me a few days back of a speed camera hidden inside a road-side green "wheely bin". In QLD, of course.Smile, you're on ExplorOz
