Maybe some of our ACT or South Coast NSW members can help me with this?? Looking to take our caravan via
Cooma, to
Mallacoota in a couple of months and I don't want to go that way with the van if it's anything like coming up (or going down) from the Tumut side. Have never gone east to the coast from
Cooma before. Not looking to go off road, this will be a black top trip.
Fred.

Agree with NotSo - the Monaro Hwy through
Bombala is the way to go. The alternative is the Monaro/Snowy Mtns Hwy which ends just north of
Bega, but this one goes down the Brown Mtn and is steeper, slower and longer distance.

Fred,
A further option is to take the Imlay Road which turns off from the Monaro Highway about 30km south of
Bombala. This takes you down a good sealed road with good grades to the Princess Hway, and from there its a short run to the
Mallacoota turn-off. Maybe a bit shorter that way. The Imlay Rd was built for the logging trucks to go from the SE forests down to the Eden chip mill, so its a good road and usually not much traffic.
Cheers,
Val.

Yes Imlay Road is viable.
Loaded logging semis and trucks with dogs handle it with ease. Good road, good gradients and plenty of passing room. As mentioned it was developed for the timber transporters but is a surprisingly little used road. Quite a pretty drive as
well.

Yep. Use Imlay road every February and November with my van to get to
Mallacoota. Not as good as the Cann Highway but not as busy either.

Even I would suggest the Imlay rd or turn left at
Bombala and go via Cathcart and
Wyndham brings you out at Pambula, turn left and off you go. either of these two routes is preferable to the Snowy Mtns Hwy.....
