Hi all,
Some years ago I inherited a very old Sydney Street Directory (The Premier Street Directory). I thought I would advertise it on Ebay or somewhere similar as there might be a collector or museum that was interested in it. But it has no date on it. But on the back of the front cover is an ad for a new (then) Vauxhall (see below). It would be the same date as the Directory so can anyone give me a year?
Thanks,
Glen

Geez that goes back a few years Glen. I had a 34 Vauxhall roadster in the early 1960s but this one is a lot older than that. If nobody can positively identify it on this site then email that photo to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood South Australia. They have a large web site and should have no trouble telling you what it is.

It is interesting to see it was being sold by Boyd Edkins. He was one of the maniacs who were involved in Sydney to Melbourne record dashes in the early 1920s. He went on to establish the Boyded Holden dealership in Paramatta.

I sold mine to a friend who wrecked it and it ended up at the local tip. Years later I saw another one in Restored Cars magazine. It was believed to be the only one in Australia!

I had a great time in it while it lasted though and even got my first flat tyre in it. Six of us were cramed into it and we rolled out of the Sydney Showground Speedway one Saturday night in 1963 only to have a tyre go down in the middle of the Harbour Bridge. We all got out in the traffic and looked at it (you do stupid things like that when you are 17) but at least we had the sense to drive it slowly off the bridge and change it under one of the railway bridges at North Sydney.

The tyre was smoking a bit when we got there. That was about the only way you could ever get it to light up the tyres.

The Vauxhall 30/98 was produced between 1913-1923.
There is nothing to pin that car down any closer than that.

My guess is 1920-22 juging by the coachwork on that chassis.
Sorry I cannot be any closer tha that. Australian coachwork was different to the original English bodies.
This link will help you possibly.

Thanks everyone for your comments. That nails it down close enough for what I want. It also has another smaller ad for Thornycroft trucks with their head office 18-20 Martin Place Sydney if that helps to pin point a year - not that it matters for my purpose. Thornycroft trucks were available in models of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 ton net capacity.
I'll just put in my ad cira 1915-1920 Sydney Street Directory.
Thanks agaiin.
Cheers,
Glen

It doesn't look to have any front brakes, so I guess it must be quite an early one.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
It ties it down close enough for my ad - I'll just use the term circa 1915 to 1920 Sydney Street Directory.
Thanks again
