Hi Folks,
Has anyone stayed at the Pooncarie caravan park lately? Is it ok?
Is it viable for day trips into Mungo?
Any info appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon W

There is a reasonably good camping ground adjacent to Mungo. No more than a minute or two away from the Park. Check previous posts for more info and feedback. You could also stay at Wentworth or Mildura. It is an easy day trip - providing there hasn't been too much rain in the area. You can always check with N/Parks at Buronga, just over river into NSW, before heading out there.

Jon, I have not stayed at the Pooncarie Caravan Park, but it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to Mungo from there via the Top Hut road.
That road turns off the Pooncarie - Wentworth road about 20 Kms on the Wentworth side of Pooncarie. then about 65 Kms to Mungo from there.
That road, in my many experiences going along there, is always in better condition than the Arumpo Road out of Buronga.
Pooncarie always looks a really neat and clean town, so I can only imagine the park would be similar. It would only be quite small though I would imagine.
General Store/Fuel and the Telegraph pub in Pooncarie. I have heard recent reports of some good fish being caught there around Pooncarie.
As stated in other posts though, there are a few camping options at Mungo.

Caravan park is good to stay in. You can also camp anywhere along the river down from the caravan park. The showers are coin operated for $1.

Quite suitable for day trips to Mungo.
