Heading out to Longreach in July. I believe there are 2 main caravn parks in town. Longreach Caravan Park and Gunnadoo Caravan Park. Does anybody have a personal preference as to which is better, It will be school holidays and I recall mention that one of the parks squeezes campers in like sardines. Is this so and if so which one is it?
Thanks is advance
Regards Mackayboy.

Longreach Caravan park is the Squeezy one but is cheaper than Gunnadoo, there is also a good Free Camp about 3Ks west of town on the Thomson River.

Last year I stayed at Ilfracrombe - around 22km drive into L'reach and it was crowded [they all will be during the holidays] but totally enjoyable. Great hosts - friendly and helpful, great happy hour, very friendly park. I loved Ilfracombe too, and a visit to Langenbaker House is well worth the time - usually leave from the park around 4pm and costs $4 towards the upkeep.
You will enjoy Longreach and all it has to offer no matter where you stay.
Enjoy!

Mackayboy,

Stayed at Gunadoo two years ago and they had free entertainment which was great. Don't think it is on every night though.

The Gunadoo was good - roomy and great amenities - and worth the few extra $ (had a squiz at the other park)..........Ilfracombe looked ok but its not in Longreach !

Based on the room you're talking about needing, I would avoid Gunnadoo on the nights of 17/18 July. On those nights there will be over 100 11/12 year old students plus 12 adults camped there in tents as part of their annual out back tour. I know, because I will be one of those adults. The sardine squeezer might be a better option.

However, if you do decide to stay we can entertain you as we provide a free concert for all residents of the park. Not sure which night that is. And in case you are heading to other places i the area and prefer to avoid primary school children we got on from there to Winton for the next three nights, then stay at Alpha, then a couple of nights in Yepoon then back to the Gold Coast.

Forewarned is forearmed.
