What maps can be loaded for 4wd tracks and would this be the best GPS to go for ?
Are the maps easy to load and use and at what cost?
I have a emap at the moment that doesn't really cut it anymore and have the nokia navigator phone with GPS which has been amazing after the emap but the outback maps are limited and the screen is a bit small.
I don't really want to go down the laptop path.
Thanks
Christian

Christian,
I'm sure Doug will be along to give his advice, but yes, the garmin Nuvi 760 is a very good device that will give you voice guided city driving with City Navigator and with the addition of "shonky maps" or Oztopo2, to cover country driving.
Bill.

I've been down the lap top/pda path and now have a Nuvi 760 with Oztopo and the free shonkymaps and find it very easy to use and the mapping is pretty good.
Cheers Bruce.

I've been researching these things in the last few days. Pretty much looking at one mainly for city navigation when we head to
Perth etc, we have a Garmin 76 for the bush.
Anyway from what I've read Garmin seems to be highly regarded (in the US anyway) followed by Magellan. Tom Tom seems to be popular in Europe.
In my opinion it really gets my nerve that the Aussie Garmins don't seem to have the SIRF III Chipset - which is meant to be a lot faster in finding sattelites, particularly through buildings and foliage, and faster rerouting etc. The 760 doesn't have it and neither does the 250W. So if it matters to you read the specs very closely, if they don't explicitly state it then it likely doesn't have it. Pretty sure the Yank versions do though. . . but why not us?
Okay, rant over.
I was pretty much decided that we would look at the 760 or 250 etc, until I found out the above detail. Perhaps I'll wait till next year!

Thanks guys, one other thing is there are three of us buying the 760, regards the oztopo mapping cd can we just buy one of those and put the maps on all three units ?
Cheers

Christian, No to that question, I would load shonkymaps to each one for the time being.
Cheers Bruce
