I have a Magellan Explorist 400 GPS. I have heard that if I am using it in my vehicle using the cigarette lighter as an external power source, then I should remove the battery in case of power surges.
Firstly, is this correct? Has anyone ruined their battery by not removing it?
Secondly, if it is correct, then how do I charge my battery if I am nowhere near a 240 source?
Thanks everyone
Bob

Bob,

You would be unlikely to get a power surge via the vehicle battery and alternator, so I wouldn't be too worried.

Have an xl explorist that only has double a batteries but never remove them while plugged into the car system.Their maps are the best i think but the latest ones are not as good ,a lot of stuff has been taken off them for some reason.

Cheers Graeme.
