Hi all, we did the trip to the tip early leaving Cooktown on May 6th and back to Cairns on the 24th. Prices were: Cooktown ULP $1.52, Laura $1.56, Hann River $1.65, Musgrave $1.69, Coen$1.67, Weipa 1.66 and diesel 1.80. Bramwell station was the winner if you can say that at 2.24 for both fuels. Jardine ferry 1.95 for both. Bamaga 1.95 and 1.90 diesel. Archer river 1.96, Lockhart River 2.10, Coen 2 weeks later 1.73, Musgrave 1.74, Palmer River 1.76, Mt Molloy 1.55 and Cairns 1.48 the same as Brisbane two days ago. Now here's the rub. Coming back to Sydney down the New England Hwy diesel in Bris is 1.74 rising the closer you get to Sydney to 1.87 at Glen Innes and holding around that in the Hunter Valley and still in the mid dollar eighties in the big smoke. It almost beggars belief but the question is, how can fuel at the tip be so cheap!!!! Cheers, Warrie

Bloody joke, was talking to a bloke yesterday dont know him from a bar of soap only that his wife is our receptionist and he said we are getting taken for a ride. He works/worked in the shell refinery not sure if he says he does or he did but says while ever we pay for it thats how it will continue to go,up. He said the government are making a motza and the refinery's, and laughing. He said you can already see the pattern. Hit a dollar a litre and people were complaining then we got use to that for a few months then up to round the $1.50 people start getting used to it they will hold it there for a while till the next hit and so on. I even heard on the radio this morning the price per barrel has come back down, bet you wont see it at the bowser. Saw diesel again this morning 33c dearer then unleaded and not yet thursday. One big bloody joke and we are the suckers. Regards Steve M PS And dont shoot me only saying what he told me as I said dont/didnt know him till yesterday.

Hi David, I just put the prices on for a bit of useful info for all the lucky ones who have yet to leave on their Cape trip.Lucky to be going there but not so lucky with the fuel prices. There is hardly a 2WD at the Tip, just the odd rental car to take you 15km from the airport into Bamaga or Injinoo and you can't take them on the dirt. But there's plenty of big thirsty 4WD's driven by the locals and heaps of tourists heading up. Perhaps they will be pleasantly surprised that diesel at the Tip is only a few cents dearer than what they are paying at home. Ah, the mystery of oil company and distributor pricing.Cheers, Warrie

Why continue to procrastinate. If you want to travel then you have to pay 'the price'. Cut down on travel - means a reduction on fuel costs. No different than perhaps travelling o/seas, finding that the price of a cup of coffee when converted into AU dollars was too expensive. What do you do ? Swallow your pride and enjoy your holiday or whinge and moan and make life unberable for everyone else who are just 'trying to get on with it'!!
