Has anyone else experienced this recently - not really a great problem, but inconvenient. Up until a couple of days ago, whenever I searched through and clicked on a thread to read, when I returned to the main page, I was always taken back to where I had come from. For some reason (beyond me) when I return to the main
forum page now, it stays at the top of the first page. Is it something I've done, or are others experiencing this. Haven't to my knowledge changed any settings.
Any clues?

I have the same problem, so you're not alone.
You need to double click the back button to get back to the
forum index, this as of Tuesday this week.

Also, forgot to mention the speed of the refresh is quite a bit slower, but this could be the amount of server traffic.

The page loading slowed down about a week ago and at times it just stops without loading the page. Even a refresh does not fix it some days. I have emailed David a few times on this but he says he can't see the problem where he is. It is so bad now that I have stopped reading the
forum some days, I just go to the other forums which are running normally.
Perhaps the Server is overloaded.

Guys,
Is the issue initial page load or all page loads. When you first visit the site a runs a lot of processes (and due to browser settings generally has to reload all content, menus, style sheets etc, even though it is programmed not to, Microsoft seems to ignore caching when you first load a page) are started and it usually takes a little longer to open the first page. Once opened you should be able to move around very quickly - My testing systems are all reporting less than 2 sec page reloads at almost all times (it can slow down a little after about 7PM EST for around 2-3 hours as this is the busiest time on the system however recent tests (after your emails) indicates that even in the busy times page redraw is less than 5 secs, with a veru occasional spike to 20 secs when one the site processes reloads (this happens once every 25 mins or so).

I am also trying to remember what changes were made on Tuesday - there was one style sheet change but I really do not think this could be a problem and it was made for a reason so is a little hard to get out at this stage. The biggest problem is that I cannot duplicate the problem.
If you are having a problem please try a + Refresh operaton - that is hold down the CTRL key and press the refresh or reload button in the browser. This will force the cached things to reload.
The page loading on a background and menu was caused by this change so make sure you do the CTRL + Refresh if you had this happen.

Hi David
The problem is not on the initial load which I understand can be a bit slow. Is is while reading the
Forum and moving between threads or topics. Sometimes it just sits there with a blank blue screen and the menu bar like I sent you by email. I have tried the CTRL + Refresh and sometimes that solves the loading, but other times it does not.
Earlier today is was bad for me but at the moment it seems better. I understand the problem you are faced with when you can't duplicate the problem we are describing.
I am going back to Australia tonight so I will see how it is when I get back. Some of the problems could be in the Indonesian network however, I am able to read other forums OK and no problem with news.com.au.

There is one other thing to try - update the flash player to the latest version - I have seen something weird in one of the V9 flash players - it seems to be fixed with the latest update. Go here

David.
Was having the same problem here in NZ, having to press the back button twice to go back once, very slowly. Have just down loaded Flash V9 again and the back button seems to be working normally on the
forum again. Perhaps this was the all the problem was. Seem to remember getting an auto update for Flash Player about 2 weeks ago, maybe less. Thinking back that’s when things started to slowdown.

I generally use the "Back to Index" button and that returns me to the index, with the most recently opened thread at the top.
On occasions where the server is slow, or I am impatient, I use the backspace key on the leyboard which returns to the index, but not necessarily with the most recent thread at the top.
Bill.

Was reported numerous times throughout the past week. Was advised to use the Return to Index button.

Send me the details of what is happening because I cannot make it happen myself. Just wirte an email to david@exploroz.com with the step you have taken and the result that happens. IE: Open index - click on Open Thread ID: xxxxxx read page the click back (browser button or backspace key or Back to Index button) and it goes to where. I will try to duplicate the issue and see what happens.

David,
I can use either Internet Explorer v7.0.6 or Firefox v1.8.14 on the same machine, and can definitely say it is a IE7 problem.
In fact the speed difference between the 2 is quite significant.
IE 7 takes 2-3 secs to load the page while Firefox is almost instantaneous.
Am running a cable connection and a high end Laptop on a gigabit router LAN.
Cheers

Bushtrek,
Please try the flash update option - it seems to be making a significant difference to others so it may be worth a try. IE can be a pain I do most testing with it and FF 2 and notice how much faster firefox is.

I had a similar problem last week as described by others...(slow opening pages/links, browser back button not working etc.) so I emailed David, the next day I had an email back from ExplorOz saying that it should now be fixed, and bingo...it was. Not sure what was done but it worked for me, the only problem that I have still is that when I click the ExplorOz link in my Favorites, the initial home page of ExplorOz still takes a while to open.
Regards, John

Happy to say I've been contacted by David and he's looking into the problem. As chance would have it,
mine has now self rectified, and I'm back on track, but David is going to do some testing to see if he can replicate the situation.
Good to know our comments are acted upon.
Well done David.
