Duck into an information centre and ask them for the brochures on fruit fly protection.

You will be travelling into the fruit fly protection zone on the trip.

If you get caught , it will cost you more than replacing the fruit & veggies when you get their. No not a good idea.

If you have purchased your fruit and vegies from a retail outlet and you have your receipt you can travel through the fruit fly area without having to get rid of it.

Don't think you'll find that such info (receipt and retail outlet) is relevant or correct in ALL areas. Coming into SA, ALL fruit and veg must be disposed of unless you are a transport vehicle and have certified fruit & veg etc. Check this info Link

Hi Julie, the general rule is no fruit &veg across state borders, only take small amounts, sealing in bags ? what about the left-overs.For the sake of a few dollars to buy more each time to keep the fly out, well worth it.

I don't think there is a consolidated web site. Each state does it's own web page. Normally you need to visit each one as the details do change. If you are not that far off the beaten track then only carry small amounts. Then it is less of an issue if you have to bin it. The one at Marla used to catch us all the time. Have writen on the map now to remind us. It pays to read the details. In WA you have to hand over any boxes that have had fruit and veg in them as well as the fruit and veg. They do give you a new box though! Some of the fines have increaded a lot recently to. A mate got pinged going Vic to SA with less than 10 pieces in May and got done for $75 now it is $2500.
