We're doing an Alice region trip during July school hol's. First part of our trip will consist of Old Andado Track.

Just wondering how people would suggest we get to Mt Dare?

Done full length of Oodnadatta Track (plus Painted Desert) previously so really just trying to get to Mt Dare asap, and start the trip proper from there. Be nice to have a bit of interest for the kids where possible though. Intended to spend time in Coober Pedy on way back.

Enjoy Innaminka to all of those going there. Look out for us if you're heading west after that. Will catch up with EO members one of these days.......Cheers JD

Assuming you mean from Adelaide, Via CP I guess... I still think via CP would be easier/more direct than through Kulgera...

Steve, you absolutely do not have to read this question, or comment, just move on to the next post that interests you.

Rich head,
If you have nothing of substance to contibute dont bother posting idiot responses.
Do we really have to listen to these sort of follow ups.
I think a troll alarm should be sounding.
I will be travelling to Mt Dare and am interested in replies.
William

Equally, JD could have had a look on his map and told us why the obvious answer wasn't so obvious. Did he really care about smooth roads, or pubs to drink at, or km travelled, or road conditions, or picnic spots, or free camping... perhaps he thinks CP stinks?

I must say I too am still bamboozled why an Adelaide person would ask how to get to Mt. Dare when they have already been there once but just thought I'd be polite and humour him... over to you JD...

For me its always been a measure of this site that you can be amazed by responses when asking a simple question at times (to which you thought you new the answer). You don't know what you don't know. ......

Because what you know can only be measured against what you dont know, and we all accept that 'you dont know what you dont know', then really there is no way of knowing what you know. Right.....

I don't know. The measure might be if you found out anything you didn't already know, Right?

The quickest way, and our preference is to take the bitumen to Coober Pedy and the well graded road to Oodnadatta and Hamilton Station. 2 days normal driving.

I think the relevant part of the post is "Be nice to have a bit of interest for the kids where possible though"

Not much IMO if you go via CP except for a look at the rockets at Woomera. The Ood Track is far more interesting as far as I'm concerned but as you've done that before you know that anyway. I'd follow Phil Gs advice.
My advice avoid CP, I'm heading to Alice at the same time as you and CP will be a fuel and coffee stop only, I can't understand the attraction of the place myself. Have a safe trip.

I know what you mean about CP Pat.

Breaking up trip back from red centre main reason for wanting to stop there. Who knows, might find some gems lying around and pay for the trip!!
