Hi forumites.today I looked at a 2004 V8 cruiser sahara.175000kms on the clock, wil be put on gas as part of the purchase price, being $43000.. It has no off road extras... As a daily driver, what sort of fuel consumtion can I expect from gas and petrol ? Driving 110kms each day 80% freeway driving...

Bob,
I can't comment on LPG consumption, but I own a 2003 V8 Sahara.
Just did a run down the Hume Hwy and back - averaged 18ltr/100km @ 110-115. Around
Sydney I usually average around 22ltr/100km if I behave myself.
If your run is mostly flat and crusing I would expect around 18-20ltr/100km. LPG would add maybe 2-3ltrs more.

Hi Bob I have 2003 V8 auto fitted with extractors and exhaust system and vehicle weighs in at 3300kg and I get 7.5kms/l on open road sitting on 90-95km . I gained about 1 to 2 kms/l with exhaust upgrade so it will pay for itself it sounds great also But these figures are for not towing anything . It drops to 5.5kms /l towing my trackshak CT. weighing in at around 1450kg. I also use premium fuel if I can get it as I find it gets me more kms/l you pay more but in the end it costs the same in more k's out of
tank. My extra weight doesn't help but if you don't overly accessorise and keep vehicle near std tare weight you should be able to get 9kms/l on open road and around 5kms/l city cycle. I have a friend who gets those figures even on standard 91 octane fuel. You can experiment with the different octane fuels to see what difference it makes.even different brands.
I don't know much about gas economy. I have heard that the valves in V8 aren't suited to gas conversion as compared to 4.5l six it replaced .
Your freeway driving should get you better economy than I get . I only drive 4k's to work on city go slow roads stop starting.
Having owned a td80 series manual and getting 7kms/l this V8 is very comparable on open road but its a shocker if 4wding in the mountains. Great 4wd you should be happy with it cheers. --regards Peter

"I only drive 4k's to work on city go slow roads stop starting."
Jeez-wouldnt you be better riding a pushy or something??
Not having a go at all or anything but it seems profoundly illogical?

Hi Bob,
I have recently purchased a 2007 100 series V8 after having had a 1HZ 80 series for 15 years. I have been recording my fuel usage and filled up 4 times since I got it. Results are:
Fillup 1: running around
Sydney
362.8km - 55.9L - 15.4l/100km
Fillup 2:
Sydney to
Newcastle and back and more running around
Sydney.
454.3km - 60.4L - 13.3L/100km
Fillup 3:
Sydney to Albury cruising on around 105km/h
580.8km - 74.85L - 12.9L/100mk
Fillup4: Albury to
Sydney then
Sydney to Blue Mts and back. Driving around 110km/h
749.2km - 95.24L - 12.7L/100km
As you can see with the current fuel prices it was cheaper for me to highway travel with the v8 than it would have been with the 1HZ as the best I could get from it was around 12L/100km.
The vehicle is pretty stock at the moment except for a nudge bar and I know the addition of weighty items will effect the final figures but to say I am happy with those figures to start with is an understatment.

Hi Bob W,
I have an 80 series running on gas / petrol and those figures quoted are pretty close to what I am getting.
But you have a great car there and running it on gas will save you a lot of money anyway so don't worry about it. Just enjoy it. Wish
mine was a V8. (smiling)
Regards,
Bruce.

4 Win stated "the valves in the V8 are not suited" (to LPG)
I would follow up on this just in case you were storing up some problems for the future. I've heard something similar but I can't recall what exactly. At the time I did not own a LC and was not that interested. Forewarned is fore-armed.
All the best,
Bruce.

Thanks for your reply Gazal champion,I spoke to a bussiness in Melb today that reconditions heads,he said cruiser heads have soft seats in them, and do not have a long life on gas. And he sugested one head was obviously cheaper to reco than two. He said why not buy a 4.5 instead of the V8 ? It will be a good 3 thousand dollars cheaper to repair. And given the cruisers are the same,he sugested if you intend to keep the car for a few years then
shop around for a good 4.5....
