Any recommend a good reasonably priced place to stay for 2 adults and 2 kids? I will be passing through next Friday night and need just an overnight stay with a comfy bed.Lots of motels to choose it seems. Thanks Brew

Don't forget your winter woollies bloody cold in Cobar.
I prefer the on site cabins as you can park right out
side handy for security, some motels have very low
clearance if you are trying to get a 4wd in with a fully loaded roof rack.

I think i would prefer to stay in Cobar than Dubbo from a crime point of veiw from what i have read.
When i stayed in Cobar last year i asked the caravan park manager
if the vehicles would be ok he didn't think it would be any worse than any where else?where i have had a lot of bad reports from Dubbo.

I always heard bad things about Wilcannia but it seemed pretty good when compared with Bourke.
Thanks for the heads up on Dubbo.

Stayed in our van at the Cobar CP a couple of times with no worries.

The sports club is close by with good chinese meal and you can get a ticket at the CP office for 10% off and a free drink.

We lived in Cobar for about 18 months. It's not a bad little place. We were just a stones throw from the caravan park & never had any problems. Yeah there was one house with dodgy sort of people in it and it was a couple houses away from us but we never had any trouble at all.
I found from reading the loacl rag that most of the crime (theft from homes / cars etc) was genrally at night and near the pubs. But like most small towns generally it was just drunk disorderliness or dui's that were predominant.

Hi,
We will also be passing through Cobar on the same night. We have booked a room the Oasis Motel. Never been there before. Recommended by a friend. Hope it's ok.

We stayed there a couple of weeks ago.
Cobar will surprise you, it's a mix of restored heritage and very new buildings.
The motels are all very good, we stayed at the
Town & Country Motel
52 Marshall Street
02 6836 1244,
this place is new, very reasonable, has it's own restaurant.
Definitely recommend it.

Yeah I think Town & Country is the one where the mining comany always puts it's visitors up, and also often go to the restaurant for dinners.

In Dubbo we've stayed at the Cattleman, and the old converted pub, plus a few others and we have never had any problems. Living in Cobar we generally went to Dubbo for a bit of retail therapy or a weekend away.

Stayed at the motel next to the Ford dealer about 6 mnths back - think it was Oasis.

Price was OK for motel. Surprised at points of interest in area.

Stopping in Dubbo - Most of the motels are in centre of town where problems roam the streets. Surprisingly the van park with cabins near the bridge behind Target was quiet as.

The Crossroads Motel is very nice, I lived there for a few months while working in a mine just outside of town.

The Chinese restaurant at the RSL is also very good.

Stayed in the van park a couple of times over the years ...sleep is hard to come by when the Road Trains come in and out all night to the servo across the road, and they keep engines running while they re fuel rigs and the men, not to mention the bellowing of the beasts etc ..
Check out a motel...that's my quid's worth !! ..but have not stayed in one of their cabins..may be a lot better ..sound proof wise..
