All, how do you keep them clean between trips?.....................
Should you keep them full or empty or sanitise them or what?
Any ideas?
Cheers, Matt

Thanks DIO,Magic and Fragile Rock,
I have learnt a valuable lesson tonight. It does not matter what question I ask - someone has ask it before! Thats not a bad thing, but I think I'll start reading the archived threads more before asking a question, since I never get time to read them usually. Appreciate you all pointing me in the right direction and your valuable advice.
Shame I just renewed my
membership - I could read this all for free anyhow! Oh
well, you'll all have to put up with me till 02 July next year, because the Missus just rewnewed my
membership!
At least I'm supporting the site, I guess.
I'll try and remove this thread via the explorOz crew soon.
It's just been one of those effing days!
Carry on all!
Matt

DIO,
#1 Why do you bother replying????? We've heard your favourite reply a thousand times.
#2 This is a
forum, and people ask questions and like to receive answers
#3 The search thing never works when I try it.
#4 How come you always get the first reply in?????
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil G,
Not entirely DIO's fault. he just pointed me to previous discussions. I didnt take offence to his reply, rather, my lack of lateral thinking on this matter. I should have thought to check the old threads first - and probably kept my thoughts to myself.
I was just having "one of those days".
I dont know DIO's track record, so I'll reserve any judgement on the issue - for the time being. But it is obvious that many on this
forum have a hellva lot more time on their hands than I do!
On a brighter note, thanks guys and gals for the input. I'm thinking of leaving the
tank full with a mixture of sterilising solution and draining periodically.
Anyhow, next week I'm off to QLD to pick up my Goldstream camper. Happy Days (and a long road trip) ahead!
Cheers, Matt

Hi Matt,
If we have
water left in the
tank of our CT after a trip, we leave it, and then top it up before the next one. It can sometimes be a few months between trips, but we haven't had a problem.
Cheers.
Jeannie

Hi Matt. Don't give up your
membership because of one bad reply.
I fill
mine up when I get home. I only use it for washing up. I take
a couple of 25lt containers for
drinking water. We seem to manage that way, so am not worried it it gets contaminated.

Ditto for us too, Jacqui and I only use the
tank water for washing up. All our
drinking water is in 10L containers from the
water filter in the kitchen and cooking
water is in 20L containers from the garden tap at home.
I fill the camper
water tank when we get home and I flush it with brewers steriliser before we head off.

Matt,
No need to apologise for anything mate.
Not many people would think of the search facility until they have become familiar with the
forum through continued use.
In my experience, providing you have "food grade" tubing throughout the van and fill the
tank with the same grade hose, all you need to do is keep it topped up between trips to restrict the growth of algae.
If the van is not used for many months, simply check the quality of the
water by smell and taste and if in doubt, drain the
tank, refill it adding a sterilising solution and leave for a couple of days before flushing and filling again.
I prefer
Milton's Baby wash as it tells you on the label, how much solution to use per litre of
water. But I have only needed to use it once so far.
Bill.

As above.
Drain for longer periods of not being used.
Shorter periods of a month or so it seems to be OK.
Try and keep light out.
Have also put a fuel filter on the vent pipe to keep the dust and microbes out.
Usually take our own
drinking water in 25l containers and use the
tank for the billy and washing.

I have an undertray
tank, but I store
mine empty. I figure that if its dry, then algae/bugs won't grow. Same with my jerry cans.

I went off yesterday to get some Micropur for the van before it went into storage. I've heard its pretty good.
Water filter place wanted $55 for 100ml. So I just used some bi-carb instead. See how that goes.
