Isn't technology marvelous..........

I lashed out and bought the Hema Navigator (thanks to everyone who contributed their thoughts to thread 59359)

So last night I take it out of the box find all the bits that are supposed to be included, so far so good.

Plug it in to start charging it. No problems there.

Stuff lights up, quite colourful, nice!

Next thing it informs me it's searching for satellites...... good luck I thinks to myself, it's got no hope.
I was sitting in the middle of my lounge room in Fairfield Melbourne. Brick walls, flat steel roof and aluminium venetians on all the windows, (closed because it was bitterly cold, remember I live in FNQ most of the time)

Bugger me dead, it then tells me it has a lock etc etc etc and the pretty red dot comes up with where I live.
Pretty bl##dy amazing I thought.

I remember my last GPS which I bought about 12 years ago, you had to stand outside with it held high up, no trees or buildings nearby and then eventually you'd get a fix if there wasn't too much cloud. the error factor was about 300 metres.

Amazing the difference 12 years makes!!!

Now if 4Wd's had progressed the same in the 12 years we'd have a car that cost $15.000 with a 500cc diesel with 300kw and 800nm that got 1litre/100k and could carry 3000kg.

Makes you think doesn't it!
