Hi Folks,
Not been on for a while but now back I need some help.
Moved to new house where I can
park the van inside the gates but it has to be moved in the final 5 metres by hand. Also need to move it occasionally to mow etc...
I have and Have used the power ratchet lever on the jockey but is there an easier way ?
Possibly an electric drive for the jockey wheel or maybe a removable drive or drives for the main wheels. On the latter has anyone made a DIY "move a caravan drive from lets say a VW starter motor.
Thanks

SKI'er,
5 metres by hand is not that far to do with a Maco Mule, or similar device.
There is a 12 volt motor driven unit built in WA, but they cost in the order of $2000 or so.
Aussie Wheel
I use a ratchet driven dual wheel Maco Mule to move the camper up a slight slope and turn 90% to the shed.

Howdy SKI'er, How would the ratchet driven unit such as yours go with a van weighing about 1800 Kg go on a wet or damp grass surface? I would have thought that with it taking all the ball weight, 160 Kg or so, that the ratchet driven wheels would have slipped. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks & cheers.

Hi Member, barry F,
Thanks for your thoughts and doubts. I am relatively new to caravaning so if I do not use the correct terms please forgive..
We are days back from 2 months in England... think smaller house blocks etc etc but they still seem able to
park their vans on a sixpence and without the possibility of using the 4by to help then in the final stages. I couldn't get a handle on how... but it has to be a mechanical assist much beyond my rathcet power lever thing,
Re skid.... yes we experience this accentuated by the hollow that caravan road wheels miraculously seem to dig in the lawn whilst parked. I have ovecome this by plonking (asking) the wife to stand on the tow frame close to the jockey wheel. (I whisper) 80kg in this position is enough to combat the skid of the power jockey wheel but her mass makes the power handle work much more strenuous.
I am certain that if I throw enough
grey cell effort and $$ into this problem I can
park and move the van more easily. I am into EASY.
thanks for your input

I have a similar problem and my solution was to buy an electric boat trailer winch and have an anchor point where it attaches and just pull it back in. I use my battery out of the van for power .
bought it here

Thanks DIO,
For the link. The inforation was invaluable. I cannot afford the touch but it would be a pleasure in tight parks. The power wheel will have to do,
Thanks again
