Hi every one,
Packing today for our long planned for trip across the Simpson.
As usual when I start to do any thing like this, its bloooooody raining.
Showers on and off in
Sydney today.
I would like to extend a big thank you to those that have answered my sometimes trivial, some times silly questions.
But as Bonz from Vic says:
"Stupid questions are far easier to tolerate than stupid mistakes."
For those that have replied to my questions are who have just read the threads, here is what has come of your answers. (rightly or wrongly,LOL)
Tyre question: ThreadID: 59207: We are going to carry complete tyre and rim on the roof. ( if I feel it is too much I will strip the tyre from the rim, only steel rim anyway)
Dog question: ThreadID: 58996: No we are not taking the dog.
Gas ussage question: ThreadID: 59155: We are taking two 2 kilo gas bottles and a 12v flouro. (gas lantern as back up)
Tent question: ThreadID: 58996: We brought the Black Wolf Turbo 240
Charging laptop question: ThreadID: 59331: Brought a 300watt inverter (modified sine wave) from jaycar. It will also be good for the cameras etc.
This is the first time we have travelled this remote so it is a steep learning curve, carrying too much weight for sure, hopefully will be able to distribute some into Dads car at
Cameron Corner.
For all those travelling over the coming weeks have a good and safe trip, I will be looking out for EO stickers and might be able to catch up with some of you that might be still around Innaminka when we come through.
Happy travells,
William

William
Sounds like you're trying to muscle in on my 'dumb question' territory!! Actually, I still reckon its good to pose an open question (without qualification etc) because some of the responses are so unexpected, and so worthwhile.
Enjoy yourself. We head off towards red centre via Mt Dare late tomorrow, or early Sunday. Will look out for your vehicle (and so many others!!).
Cheers JD

Just back from there last night - dry as a bone , including Eyre
Creek - except for pooled
water on road in a couple of
places like before Big red - but even there shallow with firm footing an no issues.
Never carry anything on roof , rollover from unstable vehicles is biggest danger in dessert, and tyres weigh twice what the rim does anyway.
Removed our winch and other bits to lighten car as we towed a bike trailer across.
Dessert in pretty good shape, some soft dune peaks but any standard big wagon will make it if not overloaded and running 16psi cold.

Robin, I met your boys when they rode their bikes in the Gymkhana - I watched them flying up the track, saw one come a buster and talked with them when they came to the Canteen to buy some burgers and chips. I was busy cooking. Nice boys and they were having a great deal of fun!

Hi Ruth
We looked for you, but did not realize you were not now at Cv
park, then we got caught up with Mark winning the Gymkhana race - he did more damage to his bike on the Simpson crossing than he could pay for with the $375 winners cheque.
We will be back though.
