Howdy folks, hows things?

good to see some wet stuff falling from the sky...

um, just a quick one.

On very rare occassions, my trusty Tojo 80 series with 1HZ motor shakes a little excessively for a second or so on start up before it smooths out. Any idea's?

Im thinking of checking the engine mounts/ bolts....

Cheers

Air leak in the fuel line?

Mine used to do that, but I discovered that when I replaced the filter coming from the rear tank, I hadn't tightened up the hoseclamps in the right spot and consequently air was getting into the system occasionally. I replaced the hoseclamps and bits of hose, and problem cured.

How long since the glow plugs have been serviced/ replaced ?? Only takes one not to be heating up properly and will run rough for a second or two. Any excess smoke on start up ?? Probably a bit hard to see when your sitting inside eh ?? My old lux was the same, one glow olug was a bit dicky but never worried about it. Use to just glow it twice on extremely cold mornings, (rare in Sydney) Regards Steve M

G'Day Ro,

All the cruisers I have owned (1HZ) have done this at times also. Typically on a cold start and after it hasn't been used for atleast a few days.

I only drive mine once or twice a month (thanks god for a company car ;) so first thing I do is use the fuel hand primer to push any air out of the system and that works 99% of the time.

Nothing to worry about though.

when i was working 2 weeks away sometimes on return while it would start fine after about 10 seconds it would run rough for a bit before smooting out
- dont see it as a problem. when you can jump in a vehicle that has sat there for 2 weeks and start it with the breifest flick of the key you know its a Tojo

Bugger...just had to go out and check the badges on my truck. Can be sitting idle for months at a time and still start first hit ...let the glow plug light go out, wait 5-10 seconds more and off she goes. But...............it's only a 2.8tdi Nissan so there's got to be something wrong with it I guess.

Patrol22 may have it, once the light goes out, wait another 10 seconds as the glow plugs are still heating up(up to a minute) depending on temp. sender. Our cruiser likes a stab on the accelerator pedal just as you hit the key for instant starting if its been a few day since starting.

Hey Nick,

The owners manual for my 93 80series says to depress accelerator when starting. Always have and never had a problem.
