Just wondering if anyone has travelled with thier dog(s) thru northern N.T and W.A. I've travelled the last few years from Melb to
Cape York with no drama's but its been a while (19yrs) since I've been North West. Any info appreciated.
Cheers
Phill

I think there's a lot of aerial baiting done up there - recall seeing signs at a few
places a few months ago.

Hi there. Just returned from 2 and a half months in NT and Kimberly/
Pilbara with our dog. We had serious issues with ticks, tho not the paralysis tick, we think. Dog got very sick, nearly died, cause unknown, so cannot help you with diagnosis. Something like gastro or even Pancreatitis, the vet said. Also, many
places where dogs not allowed, especially
Broome.
Ranger at Bungles Bungles summed it up "Dogs don't seem to like it up here, they just get sick and die" (he owns a dog, and leaves it at
Kununurra while he's working). And then there's the National Parks. And bait signs all over the place.
So a recent and heartfelt response: think twice, my friend. You may regret it, for your sake and for the dog's sake as
well.

Sorry, should have added that there are a few kennels, but not many. We did OK at
Alice Springs,
Kununurra,
Derby. Also, not many vets in the Kimberly or
Pilbara, and so, if the dog gets crook, there may easily be a 400 km trip (each way).

We met a lovely
young couple travelling with 3
well behaved dogs. Although
bush camping was their preference, they stayed at a number of other
places that allowed dogs. As they were unable to takes dogs on the
Mitchell Plateau, they had to opt for a plane flight over the falls from
Drysdale River Station.

We found in WA very few caravan parks would take our dog, however most motels we tried were happy to have the dog as long as he was quiet and stayed in the vehicle at night.
Some even had no dog signs up.
We found only one place in
Coober Pedy (Motel ) and were happy to stay a few nights.
We have since brought a caravan and can
free camp.
We never let him out of sight and now that we have a shade cloth ground cover for the van, he stays on that to avoid ticks and any other nasties. He sleeps inside the van at night.

We just got back today from up that way. We left our dogs behind this time, they've been over there before, because we were warned about the baiting. It was a good decision as we saw numerous warning signs, We did a lot of our trip on the dirt, the Tanimi was very bad, and bush camped most of the way. They would have had to be in muzzles more than I was prepared to put them through.
