Thanks everyone for you responses. I guess I should have been more specific.

Firstly I agree with what you guys have posted and that it is an individual thing.

BUT, where is the INDUSTRY heading, are they favouring 2 way fridges in vans etc? or are they still installing 3 way as the standard?

I'll always use a 3 way...but i only run it off 240 or gas. I take a 9kg bottle just for the fridge and will get well over a week off that, but ive never tested it for more than a week...

Prickle

At the Sydney show this year, compressor fridges in vanswere very much in the minority. Compressor fridges are mainly fitted in vans that are fitted with extensive solar systems.

I think there are more compressor fridges (per capita) fitted to motor homes than vans.

ps I dont know why posters keep rabbiting on about the merits of one type over the other the other or their own problems with fridges on your thread. May bee they don't understand simple English and can't read your question.

Just read this. Might get one if only to start up at campsite. Great info, love the picture of the melted 12v plug.

That is just another example of why you do not use cigarette lighter plugs in applications that draw more than an amp or two.

Quote from that site - "cigarette lighter end slips off to fit Narva type sockets despite it melting on our first use." - If they had have removed that red end to power the fridge from the newer Narva type socket and not used a cigarette lighter socket then they would not have melted the plug. Cigarette lighter plugs just but the positive contact up against a small button. In the Narva type the contact slides into a couple of fingers, this provides much greater contact pressure and area as well as self cleaning every time you insert the plug.
