It would be quicker to go through
Broken Hill, it's about 70k more this way butt you have sealed roads so you can travel faster then the dirt.

The run from
Mildura to
Yunta via
Broken Hill will take you about 5 hours plus stops, that is travelling at the speed limit.
The track through Coombah is little more than a station track and would take considerably longer but with the rain that has been about this year should be very pretty.
If I was going that way, depending on where I was going after
Yunta I would plan an overnight stop. Not because I would have to but because I reckon it would be nice.

Mildura -
Renmark -
Morgan -
Burra -
Yunta 406 kms
Mildura -
Broken Hill -
Yunta 474 kms
I know which way I would go. Better roads, less roos etc.

Using RAA Website:
Mildura -
Broken Hill -
Yunta = 493km
Mildura -
Renmark -
Morgan -
Burra -
yunta = 496km.
3km difference.
BTW I don't think there is an easy or fast way through from Coombah - it is a maze of station tracks. The only decent road you could try join up to in the
Burra -
Cockburn Road (not the Barrier Hwy...via Braemar &
Lilydale stations). It has been a few years since I traveled that way and it wasn't too bad then.

Cockburn or Coburn?......the town is called Coburn, it had a name change in 1980.
SA calls the town
Cockburn and everyone else calls it Coburn.
Confused!

Google maps gives:
Via
Broken Hill - 492 km or 5 H 41 M
Via
Burra - 494 km or 6 H 11 M
Could the others who produced figures at great variance to these figures please advise their program or the map they used.

Am I right or wrong?
On the NSW side it is
sign posted Coburn as the hotel is and on the SA side it is
sign posted
Cockburn.
Most maps have it as
Cockburn......so why two different names.
