Hi all , just wondering if anyone has some good tips on the best way to carry fishing rods on a trip. Doing a trip to the NT soon and dont want them getting caught up etc in any other gear, also not to go missing. Have a couple of ideas but would love some suggestions.
cheers

Yep,
If I'm going fishing seriously, a 100mm PVC pipe with reinforced ends holds my range of rods. The "bazooka" ends are lockable which secures the rods from the opportunist thief.
If I'm only taking a couple, they are usually mounted inside the vehicle, along the roof lining and attached to the grab handles fore & aft with velcro straps.

Hi ,will only be taking a couple of rods and like the velcro idea. Might even try to velcro mount them on the top of the canopy inside. cheers.

Hi Jodie,
You can get the velcro straps from Dick Smiths. They are made for cable strapping and are about 5-6 inches long.

I to carry
mine in a 100mm pvc tube, but I've got this theory that if you put a lock on something people will want to know whats in it (for Them). So all I've done is put a cheapo
water tap off a 20 litre type plastic
water drum on one of the end so that people think that its a
water tank. And I keep them in home made calico rod bags to stop abrasion and I also cut some foam/sponge for the ends to custion any movment.

G'day Jodie,
Why carry the weight of stormwater pipe if you don't need to?
I place my two-piece fishing rods in separate long, thin middleweight polycotton bags my wife made up on her fancy sewing machine. She even attached some tie strings at one end!
I use a short length of bungee cord to hang each rod inside the canopy roof ie: from the internal frame. I find the bungee cord better than velcro as it _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx up tight to minimise vibration. I have just finished stowing my dune flagpole and long-handled shoevel in the canopy and out of the way using the same method.
Catch a bigun !

I bought for $10 from an art supply store an folio tube. Is extendable to fit what ever size rods you have. I attach
mine to the cargo barrier in with rock straps. the tube only weights a 100-200 grams so is very light.

Hi Jodie,
I use the PVC pipe with one end glued. The other end has a small padlock (back of car). I have lined the inside of the pipe with indoor/outdoor carpet and each end with foam. Bloody fiddly to glue in place but works
well. I also put my rods in extra thick cloth rod bags inside the pipe. I haven't had any damage this way and carry both spinning and fly rods together. I have one fly rod that is worth over $600 so I like to protect my investment. Having snapped a couple of rods that were stored inside the car some years back I am not keen to do that again. I was not a happy camper when I got to my fishing spot to find both of my rods converted from 2 piece to 3 piece. My language was somewhat bluer than the
water.
