Asking the question for my sister. Wants a comfortable and affordable 4wd mainly for towing a horse float. Used a Pajero for 15 years. Anyone out there driven/driving one of these SsangYong things.Power and torque look ok.
Not a 4wd er myself so cant really comment on any of the brands that get talked up and down these pages. Patrol and Cruiser aren't an option .......too big for her needs. Wants to buy new as
well.
All replies will be considered......thanks all.

It got a good write up in the April edition of Overlander.
Has a six speed Australian made auto. It also has an overall higher level of Australian components than any other dual cab on the market.
Its tray is about 180-250 mm shorter than most utes.
It has coil rear springs which makes it ride very
well apparently, but reduces its payload.
I've not driven one, but had a god look when doing a measure for a set of _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx and it looked like a pretty good thing. Very
well finished and appointed.
Having owned two Hyundais I am a big fan of Korean cars. They represent outstanding value for money.
Jim.

I have owned a Kia
Sorrento, never again.
Now I work for Hyundai, I wouldn't touch their Santa Fa for certain reasons.

Sure
Sorrento:
Resale value, I lost $12K on it in 12months. There just simply are no second hand buyers for them.
Couldn't change gears in Tiptronic mode up a
hill once and couldn't get it back into Drive. Had to pull to the side, switch off and wait for a few minutes. Doesn't exude confidence.
Other than that,
well put together and very good value for money. Aftermarket is virtually non-existant.
The Santa Fa's:
Has a common prob around 120L - 140K km's. Something as simple as front and rear tyre tread at different depths, puts strain on the diff and Auto box. We are getting a few in, just out of warranty, that we are charging $10K for. New Auto, diffs, etc...

Go Fishing, Any vehicle drops it's price after sale, your example does sound a bit high, did it have any damage ? Also, low end vehicles don't have a high margin and dealers always seem to want a good commision. Are you talking about what a dealer offered you or was it a private sale ?
How common are the other problems you mention ? One vehicle has a Tiptronic problem and you reckon every one of them is faulty ? I have never heard of either of those problems you mention so I don't believe they are common. If you have any experience of handling customer complaints at a dealership you would not buy any vehicle on the market at present !

Hi landed eagle
Just read your post this morning.
I have an Acton 2wd auto, which I purchased about six months ago for work and to tow my 16' caravan.
I have been hesitant to comment until it has been fully tested, but so far have been pleasantly surprised.
Vehicle drives very nicely, and tows great.
The 2ltr turbo diesal is very economical particularly when towing.
I can not obviously comment on off road, but for flat road, its so far been great.
We are about to leave on a four week trip from
Sydney to Mt Isa, Karunda,
Cairns, and
home. That will be a good
test, and I will post a comment after the trip.
Hope this helps,
ynotme
