Bloody Waeco's...they're too fragile.....no end of trouble with ours...been back twice for warranty repairs....error light still flashes every now and then. Going to trade it for another Engel.

Yair i worry about our 40 litre Waeco all the time too Willem. Had it about five years now, bad dirt roads, good highways, on road and off road, only done about 140,000 km yet EVERY TIME we come home have to unpack it, wash it out and put it away.

So much hassle - then we have to get it out again for the next trip! Why don't they make them self care?

Heap of rubbish - will probably chuck it after another ten or twenty years or so too - or it may chuck me out by then. And you can't hear it running - not like the good old Engel's groaning away.

had our Waeco for over 6 years and it's been fantastic.

I've heard that the newer ones with all the fancy features are not as reliable but ours just has a dial that goes from freeze to various degrees of refrigeration. Simple but after a fair bit of abuse it's still the best of our two fridges at home and the caravan fridge.

now I've jinxed it.....

Yerrr Max

Have two Engels. One 23 years of age and still going strong but body(15lt) has disingrated somewhat. The other one is 6 years of age and also never had a problem.

Waeco 40lt has a soft life as it lives in the bitumen 4by. Has had 2 x Cards(not sure what they are for) replaced. Repairer stated that Waeco had told them that a faulty sequence of cards ocurred in the production line. Both cards have been replaced under warranty.

Waeco was purchased with the view of paying less for a product as money was in short supply for such a purchase at the time. When the product goes pearshaped twice in two years then that invokes the thought of unreliability. Much like the 3lt Nissan which has had issues in some models.

Hence the comment.........

That's fine Willem - the brand stirring will never end, and I guess I am just being smug because mine has given no trouble. I know your gear gets a lot more running than mine.

My training as a mechanical engineer made me a bit sanguine about bell curves for failure and I really accept that I get a good run of luck. Rarely do I have an in warranty problem in anything, and while reading the instructions and being a fuss pot can help a bit (especially with computer software), luck is random when it comes to the odd failure.

Interestingly, while we keep the dollars under control, we bought out Waeco in a year when the big two fridge people were having a little price war at the Sydney C&C show, and both were about the same low price. I went Waeco because I liked the technology - HD moulded foam does not rust, and the compressor used is much more widely used, and generally integrated circuit cards are pretty reliable (except for the luck factor, or a design fault).

No offence I hope, and i deserve the damn thing to fall apart next trip!
