Recommend Next G Phone & Car Kit

Hello - I'm after some recommendations for a good Next G phone and a car kit with high gain (bulll bar mounted) aerial. Any experiences/recommendations incl installers in
Perth would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just did a trip to the gathering and around and was surprised where we got reception with a telstra 165 phone. I don't like using it as much as the samsung I had before but reception has been very good

Nokia 6120 or better still the E51 with a Force cradle running through a bluetooth radio.
We had phone reception about 50k from Camerons Corner towards Tiboburra and then all the way into
Broken Hill.
Love to know where the closest Next g tower from Innaminka was as we were getting a signal there.....not enough to make or receive calls or text.

I also am very happy with my Nokia 6120 and the Force cradle . I have much better coverage on the highway than I ever had with CDMA .

The iMate JasJam has an external antenna connector on the back. I still had my old CDMA antenna on the bullbar from my last phone so just bought the adapter cable to plug directly into the phone. (CDMA and NextG both operate on 850MHz band, lower band travels further than 3G which is 2100MHz).
Now i get reception at Eucumbene, so have to lend my phone to my mates when we go fishing so they can check in with their wives :-/
Not to mention, it has done everything the new iPhone does and I've had it nearly 2 years (all be it without the very slick interface).

I have the Nokia E51 and I think it is an awesome phone - particularly for a business user. I was able to swap it from a Samsung A701 after I complained about coverage. The E51 is not a blue tick phone but the coverage seems fine and I couldn't live with one of the Telstra ZTE's.

I guess it depends on whether you want a phone for what it can do, or simply as a fashion accessory. The reports on the ZTE just keep coming that it gives excellent coverage. Personally I would always be going for the one with the best coverage. But maybe I go into areas that you don't. My ZTE has proved to have a better coverage than my old CDMA and I can certainly live with it. In fact its toughness has been tested by a number of drops and it's even been trodden on. I'm surprised Telstra gave you a non blue-tick as a substitute for your original, when I complained about my original I wasn't given a choice but am very happy with the result.

165 is as tough as. Left
mine on a noggin, another worker knocks it off and it falls in
water trapped in slab plastic. Remains submerged for about 3 hours when we eventually realise where it is and after drying it out no problem. Actually only found it by ringing it from another mobile! So it still had coverage underwater!!!!!!! Basic phone but I only want it to make phone calls.

Depends on what you want.
If you want a REAL country phone, nothing compares with the 165. It's a reasonable phone for features (I have a Nokia GSM as
well) but nothing but nothing beats the 165 for coverage.
I previously had a ZTE 252 and was not happy with that in many respects (Telstra replaced it for me FOC) - but I have no gripes with the 165 and on coverage it beats them all "by a country mile."

My previous 252, and more recently people who had a Samsung, an LG and a Nokia (all NextG) who were camped where I was. Don't ask me the model numbers- wouldn't have a clue.
I was the only one with useable signal.

I have a Nokia N95 and the father has a Telstra 165 Country.
Both have similar reception where we are north west of
Cobar.
They are much better than the CDMA phones we were using as far as signal reception and the ability to talk with people. We are about 220km from the nearest tower as the crow flies, and I can talk with the house from the western paddocks which are another 21km from home, so that's about 240km distance on the signal.

well .
The Palm Treo is a 'pda' which you may not want, but for me it works very
well .
I'm based in
Canberra but if you contact Point to Point they'll have a recommendation for you in
Perth .
