Monash Uni released information re the safety of used vehicles:

Best
1. Subaru Forester (97-02)
2. Honda CRV (97-01)
3. Ford Explorer (01-05)

Worst
1. Diahatsu Rocky (85-98)
2. Toyota Landcruiser (82-89)
3. Holden Rodeo (89-95)

The list was in the NT News - would be in other papers as well - it is interesting reading.

I take it they were comparing "retired models", otherwise a current vehicle, bought yesterday etc, may be far safer again.

Or did they look at "number of accidents" per vehicle numbers sold?

Yeah and no doubt someone has written a thesis on it and has obtained a doctorate in the process.

UNiversity scjholars take statistics and weave it to their own fashion to come up with what may seem like a plausible result. Then everybody cheers as they are capped for their genius......LOL

Cheers

Ah yes - BUT, it doesn't really matter how safe they make vehicles, it's the NUT behind the wheel that's the real problem. No wonder authorities are constantly implementing new technology for the express purpose of detecting and apprehending these 'crettins and getting them of our roads.

Dio, Mmmm. Yes I dont doubt that there have been many lives saved with airbags and ABS stability control etc, BUT unfortunately didnt do princess Di any good in the top of the range BMW, with numerous airbags, curtains etc. This is one of those arguments where everbody will have to agree to disagree. I paid extra for curtain airbags etc in the wifes Toyota so that if in the event myself or my wife gets t boned hopefully it will save our lives or any people in the back seat. But not everybody is in the position to have be able to get new cars or even older ones and be able to have all the safety features available, they are just happy to be able to get around. Agree with you that at the end of the day there are some clowns on the road who shouldnt be driving. They keep on about speed kills etc. There are numerous places like the Pacific highway where 100k's is far to quick, then you have the likes of the M2 & M7 that are great roads and your limited to 90 or 100. Then everybody blames the roads. Simple, drive to the conditions, wet. slow down not hard. Regards steve M

May that be because the ones in the "worst" category are more likely to be taken off road? Therefore more "endangering" ?

Maybe Holdens changing the Rodeo to the Colerado (spelling) to avoid any connection to past indifferences.
Is the Rocky still in existance???
Cruisers? So many out there and so many incidents numbers may add up.

Wonder whether these are city or country statistics.

Gday,
I find that hard to believe??

I heard "HBSS" just released data from their stats saying "The Toyota Landcrusier has proven to be the most reliable and safe vehicle on the road today"

Sounds a bit contradictory doesn't it?

Cheers Hairy
