Rear Drawers

I am looking into getting a set of rear drawers in the back of my GU 6 patrol. I am looking at the standard 2 draw side by side system with a fridge slide on the top. There are two brands I have seen that seem quite good, being 'Outback 4wd Interiors' and 'Black Widow Storage Systems'.

Can anyone provide recommendations or advice on these or recommend other products that are similar

Hi
Looked into the same situation a number of years ago and after inspecting both systems that you mentioned, I went for the Black Widow. This was the best purchase for our vehicle that we have made, apart from the Black Widow Awning. They are a top product and will handle the toughest of outback trips that you do.

Black Widow for me!

Cheers

Yep, Black Widow for me too.

They are not cheap but are a lifetime investment.
You can change from one vehicle to another simply by purchasing a new pair of side wings, to suit thenew vehicle.

Another great option Black Window have is a built-in fridge slide, so that the top of the drawers remain flat, rather than a fridge slide fixed on top.

Hi, I have a set of Outback drawers in my Nissan Patrol. They are well made and fit is good. No rattles and the drawers are free running. Very pleased with them. They were fitted about 18 months ago in preparation for a CSR trip.

The blokes here at 'Outback' are always developing new concepts and nifty designs. Construction has also been reduced in weight with increased strength.
There seems to be a lot of little features that overall make a better unit.

As Kev predicted, here I am.

Both Black Widow and Outback are excellent products. We do not compete with them as we are in different segments of the market, as are BMW and Holden.

Our units for a GU are $850. We started in this business because we saw the need for a quality product at affordable price, and that is what we produce.

Jim.

Just a thought .....

Prior to your handing over the cash .... ensure that drawers ARE what you need.

Fitted a set several years ago as part of a trip prep. Whilst reliable and convenient, they beacame a total pain in the A#*` after the trip.

Limited the vehicle use for day to day activities and wasted space in the shed when removed. Not to mention the " too much hassle to refit " for a spontaneous weekend away.

I've gone back to tieing down quality, removable containers which also store the camp gear and spares / recovery gear when put back on the shelf.

Shouldnt be a problem though, if your vehicle is a dedicated tourer.

Picked up a set of Outback draws second hand.
Can't fault the quality. Only problem is they didn't have the built in fridge slide. Outback will not sell the "kit" to do this as they have too many complaints from people who have fitted them afterwards.
To fit extras after a base set of draws is purchased may require the whole unit being sent back to Cairns.
Needless to say I'm halfway through doing it myself with no problems thus far.
If you plan to add any extras after initial purchase, ask what's involved before the purchase.

Gday, this is what I bought....."Tanami Draws".
About the same as Blackwidow quality from what I remember. All aluminium construction with great slides (very strong)
The fridge slide is great,....you can roll out the draw on its own or with the fridge...................And top and end access doors in the side compartments
I couldnt be happier with them!

Cheers

One main issue in a Gu is WEIGHT
Look at http://www.consoles.com.au/Nissan_GU_cargo.htm
Made from construction ply - much lighter than steel
Bought my set second hand, done 3 Simpson trips, and 500'000km in work wagon full of tools and gear- still working fine
PS they also come out fairly easily

We also have Black Widow and are extremely happy with them. The main reason we went with them was they were the biggest capacity drawers we found (90 series Prado). When looking around at the various manufacturers I discovered there is a significant difference in the size of the drawers they offer. The difference was in all three dimensions - length, width and height. So make sure you ask about drawers sizes (internal size) when inquiring about products so when they turn up they are what you were expecting.
