hi, this is a note of warning, i heard on the radio yesterday about a new way car-jackers are stealing cars it is as follows;
when you park your car and go off doing what ever and return to the car there is a piece of paper stuck to the back window, which usually you don't notice until your in the car and putting it into reverse to leave the parking spot, then you stop the car and usually leave it running with you belongings in it (handbag etc..) and go to see what is stuck on the back window, while you are checking this the car jackers jump in and are off, with your car, house keys, money your total id and address.
so be warned if you notice something on you back window to drive off and check later so this doesn't happen to you, and let others know aswell which is why i'm posting this on this forum.
Chris.

Troll,

Some really cool self defence options available in SA.

Flame Blaster

Not only for car jackers but great for getting campfires going on those cold days and warding off pesky cyclists (that's joke BTW).

Variations of this story have been doing the rounds for several years now. Snopes.com has the information on the original variant : Flyers on Car windows Carjacking

Whilst it is possible that it could happen, i'm yet to see a credible account of this happening to an individual or close relative, rather just "heard about it" or "friends of friends of next door's dog etc" accounts.

Unless there is an actual account from an Australian Police Service representative with a location within Australia, i call it "urban myth".

I would'nt use the Police as a reference of fact. They believe in the accuracy of their mobile speed cameras :)))

there were a couple on the radio yesterday in Strathalbyn (small country SA town) that it happen to and also someone else phoned in that they parked their car in Glenelg SA last week end that had the paper on the back window but didn't stop only because he's wife wouldn't let him as she felt unsafe.
I'd rather be safe than sorry.

So how does it work if you drive a couple of hundred metres before stopping !!! Sounds like another 'urban rumour' to me. Too many people have too much free time and are bored.

Rolled gold Urban Myth I reckon. Why if some scumbag was wanting to take your car would he not jump you as you got in rather than wait while you drove a short distance, possibly in a direction he could only guess, in the hope you stop and get out to look at the back window ??

no they wait until you are backing out of the parking spot and before you go anywhere is when they are hoping you spot the paper and get out, so in reality all you have done is open the car and start it up.

In normally walk around the vehicle before getting in as it is also a check on flat tyres, parking lot accident damage and any other unusual happenings. It only takes a few seconds and is a good habit to adopt.

Just like to add another ---

Those who have GPS- Would be robber cases parking lots -- looks in cars for the usual marks on the windscreen where a GPS has been stuck to the window - break into this car -- usually find the GPS in glove box / under seat ---

They break a window or Incapacitate your car - so you need to either call police or NRMA - this is to stall for time .... Now 99% of people have there home address in the gps ( to navigate to home ) they just find where you live -- know that your stuck at the shopping centre and have time -- rob your house .....

something to consider ....
