Supreme Getaway Van

Hi there
Looking at moving from tent to off road caravan, rolled 2 campers so cook a bit nervous, any feedback on rear door units appreciated. We usually bush camp so was thinking of probably size of 11' to 13'6"".

Jeeeezzz Colin, you are one talented guy. LOL

If you have managed to turtle 2 campers, what makes you think a caravan wont do the same thing????? That would be a lot more spectacular, can I come along with a camera when you do it mate.

I know a guy in our club that is always p1ssed off with his rear door unit because it sometimes fouls up at the door area on deep dips and makes it hard to open until repaired.
Cheers, Colin.

Colin

There's no such thing as an Off Road caravan.

Hi Col,

I would like to even the comments up a bit and say I reckon you are on the right track. I have a larger 16'6 Getaway and we just love ours. I would not be affraid to take it anywhere, and have taken it a few places already (we have owned it now for 8yrs).

They are a heavy van and the tow vehicle will be important, more so if you really want to use them offroad. What do you intend to tow it with?

If heading into offroad territory and not just dirt road territory, 13'6 would be about max length in my opinion but the smaller the better. If you go over about 13'6 you may as well go huge cause you won't get them in and out of steep sided gullies anyway. All else will be a walk in the park for the Getaway. Bloody good value for money van in my opinion (I base this on what I paid for mine back 8yrs ago) but the new ones from other owners are they have increased dramatically in price.

Best of luck and safe travels.
Trevor.

Thanks King
Will be using 60 series diesel toyota as tow vehicle. Weight is a major factor and I agree that the shorter the better as I have helped free a number of larger vans when they have been hung up. I am looking at used as I have heard the build quality has slipped a bit.

Have you seen this one?

I believe the older ones are of better build quality too but not first hand experience of new ones, as mine is 200 model.

Cheers Trevor.

Hi Col - we have a 2006 Getaway. Had wood rot in frame at front, back and one side, at 10 months old ( plus various other probs). Supreme would not help as we were the 2nd owners. Used to be a great company - now they just trade on the name and bank the profits.

Buy one that is over 6 years old and you should have a good van.

In the Garage sale section of today’s Melbourne Herald Sun Supreme Caravans are having a Garage Sale 15 16 17 August at their Sydney Road Fawkner address. They say not only Caravan accessories but new and used vans are on “sale”.

Maybe worth a look if you are Melbourne based.
