Evenin' all,

I have recently acquired a HR WDH setup. Standard 250kg bars, adjustable head etc. It came with a set of "dual cam anti sway bars" made by HR to attach to the WDH to prevent sway from starting after passing a semi or hitting a pothole etc.

RefAnti sway bars

My question is, Does any one out there have these bars fitted, and if so do they work? Are they worth fitting?

What weight is your van? I enquired about them at the Sydney show. They asked what is the weight of my van. When I said 2,000 kg ATM they indicated that it was too light for the dual cam system to be effective.

Just found this on the HR website. It says suitable for over 160kg ball weight.

OOPS!

This unit performs superbly owing to years of research and development prior to introduction. Road tested over rough, rugged terrain and virtually everywhere a caravan or trailer could go. Suits ball loads over 160kg.

Daza

They did not give a minimum ATM, they just said they would not suit mine.

Ian

Could you please post a URL so we can all read that info.

Peter,

I sent an Email to HR last nite asking them if it would suit my van and this was the reply

Hi Ian,
Dual Cam Sway Controls need a minimum of 160kg ball weight to make them work.
You would have to weigh your ball weight to see how much you have. We also have
a Friction Sway Control which is side mounted that will take less ball weight to work.
Both of these sway controls require you to use the weight distribution kit to mount
them to.
regards, Diane.

HR link is Hayman Reese and go to Products / Sway Controllers

My ball weight should be about 200kgs so it should work OK.

Ian

Thanks for that. Looks like the right hand is disconnected from the left hand at HR. I will have to look into it again.

Ianw..... i have the dual cam HR and use it to tow a 2500kg boat... and 1 tonne on the tray.
Works great but takes alittle time and experimenting to adjust it to your rig..
Get it on flat ground and keep playing untill it measures out acording to the instructions...
Then you may still have to fiddle to get it just right. I had some steel blocks welded to mine so they would be tighter on the trailler frame but i have a A frame that goes to single beam so mine has the alternative bracket you should have an A frame.
Get your ball weight measured if your still having troubles....
cheers

Ian my ball weight varies depending on how i load up the boat... runs between 190kg and 200kg.
Had no need of anything other than a plain old tow bar while i had the ST Patrol wagon - but then with how light the ute is and how much longer it is the bloody thing swayed out of control due to the tow ball being so much further from the rear axle..
So a $650 HR system and a couple of modification and its GOLD has saved my arse more than a few times and it will last for ever because you take it from your current vehicle to the next...
.......
Measure from the top of front and rear tyre to the bottom of the guards...
Then hook up trailler and measure again......
Adjust untill you can get it back to the measurement it was without the trailler hooked up.....
That being said near enough will be good enough nothing works perfectly.....
Make a note what number the cams on and never move it they can be a bugger.. and note what number chain you hook it on and repeat each time you tow...
Also use the different height adjustment.......
It not only stops swaying but will help the car suspension thats the big plus.....
Any probs let me know and i will give you my phone number... also take the whole set up to a HR retailler he can measure the ball weight in a few minutes its difficult to do at home...
good luck you wont regret it if your having towing problems..
I have RSI now must stopppppp tyyypppin

For any thats interested, I have found a thread on the caravan forum with several reports and opinions. General opinion seems to be in favour of them.
