Read/heard somewhere that 1 in 4, 720's go missing/stolen, given that when a thief is stealing my unit he will not be checking to see if I have password control on the unit, is it worth the bother of installing it and using?

Since I intend, initially at least, to only use the unit for navigation and answering calls, do I need to back up the unit (Maps?) onto my PC.

I also read/heard somewhere that the unit came with one free map upgrade, is this correct? and how actioned?

Any other considerations for a Newbie to the 720?

Peter

Peter,

I use password control on my 720.
Don't know how "secure" this makes the unit. I have it configured to display my name and a mobile contact number so at least there is something. To get past this screen you must enter a four digit password.

It costs nothing to download TomTom Home, the application used to configure password control, update maps, GPS fix data, etc.

Bill.

So if it's stolen, thief takes it to place like C.C. to get $50 or so, by how much will it devalue the unit if password protection is activated? I thought password protection was designed to keep nosey people from snooping on your business activities not prevent theft. To prevent theft remove unit from conspicuous view in vehicle. Better still, take it with you.
