Goog's Track

Planning to do Goog's mid September towing camper. Six vehilces, 3 with trailers. Any one done it recently. Hearing reports that it is pretty soft and some of the longer hills difficult even without trailer.

Even when dry & cut up Googs track is very straight forward & not particually difficult if you let your tyres down. After completing it most people wonder what all the fuss was about. As a comparison the Vic/SA border track is far more challenging.

You will do Googs with a trailer no probs...
Low tyre pressure and all will be fine..

Twinkles,
I've done Googs towing a Tambo camper trailer with a Navarra STR. It's an easier run heading north than it is coming south. The main problems are on the second half of the track north of Googs Lake. There are some large dunes with long sandy run-ups. As long as the tyres are right down, you should be OK. I was down to 15psi in the vheilce for these. Make sure you do the drive into Mt Finke.

Cheers. Mick

Sorry MickO, gunna take you to task there, the best way is from north to south, as the southern sides of the dunes get cut up and can be difficult for trailer people.
The other reason is that when you finnish your out in the middle of nowhere.
By going south you end up on the coast at ceduna, where there are many more options for things to do and see. We usually enter via Mt Ive road and work our way across and down the track.
We have done the track many times over the last 7-8 years.
Have see it so cut up that good 4by's without trailers could hardly make it through from the south, because wankers dont let there tyres down.

Cheers Pesty

Thanks for the replies. I usually let my tyres down to about 14psi, so should be right. I have new Dick Cepec (Mickey Thompson) PC-II's and Procomp muddies on trailer.

Twinkles.
I did Googs Track South to North last November in my 2007 Hilux.
Tyres down to 18psi.no problems.I camped at Googs Lake and had dinner with millions of flies.I also recommend a trip out to Mount Finke

Twinkles,

I've just put the FC II's on myself. Let me (and the forum) know what you think of them over the next 12 months.

Cheers. Mick

Twinkles,

We have just arrive home from this trip. Travelled North to South (as did it south to north last year). Better drive than from south to north. It was a lot softer and corrugated on the southern approaches last year. They have obviously had a reasonable spot of rain but still drop your tyres down to save the track.
Stayed 2 nights at Mt Fink and 2 at Goog's Lake. The lake is very pretty and I would go back there just to spend more time there, bird watching etc.

Enjoy.
Russ
