Howdy all, hope ya all
well. Just after a few hints/tips on building a
camping box, similar to the Drifta ones that are available. Will be making it from wood, probably marine ply or something. Will jst be a storage box really, rather then having _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx and stuff. Just something that i can pack all my bare essentials into so when i wanna go it just gets thrown in the car, with my swag and an esky and im off.
Will be used to hold, basic cooking gear and cutlery, little gas cooker, some spare batteries and repellent etc, fluoro lights/12v shower and my little 18a/h battery to run shower and lights when away from vehicle.
Any ideas on anything at all would be great, photos would be great too, but any idea at all would be more then enough.
Oh yeah and Go BUDDY

Kroozer, I shouldn't let you know, seeing you barrack for the hawks, lol, but if you want cheap marine ply try the following place, I rang them today and a 2400 x 1200 x 12mm sheet was $81.00, very reasonable I thought. They do have other thickness if required. In Dandenong South. John

To save space I use those plastic cliplock bags as containers.
I use the little poppa juice bottles for BBQ & tomato sauce.
I have a thermos and when we boil the billy/kettle for a cuppa I tip the rest of the hot
water in . Always have hot
water to wash up or make a quick cuppa

K,
Marine ply is overkill. Good quality structural ply is more than adequate. The grades (B/C or C/D should be fine) relate to the quality of the finish.
Try Melboards or All Boards and ask what they have on special. You should get 12mm x 2400 x 1200 for $45 or less.
Jim.

Have to agree marine ply is an overkill, my
camp table is only made out of structual ply and is fine and is some 3 odd years old now and looks like %hit (food stains) only because I have not done anything to it, but
cook and eat :).

If you want a clear finish marine ply uses better quality veneers, also 10mm should be adequate.

John,
Don't balls around ringing suppliers. I can get it for you extra cheap or fling you some decent excess for nichts if it is useful to you.
I have a lot of off cuts that I use and some others that I keep for mates. Depending on the size you need, it may be cheap or free.
Regards,
Jim.

Sounds like what you're after is a "Patrol Box" that some scout troops use. Type "patrol box" scouts (the first two words in quotes and scouts as it is) into Google and it will bring up lots of plans. Many of the plans give full cutting and assembly instructions. Last time I looked (for an EO query a couple of years back) there was even a spreadsheet where you could change the size and shape and it would calculate new cuts.
