hi, we are doing a trip lasting around a month from Goolwa SA through to Broken Hill, then to Parkes NSW, then down to the river Murray and following it back to home. we were wondering if there's any overnight camping in that stretch that people can recommend or steer us clear of, we know the Murray River quite well up to Mildrura and then the rest of the trip we haven't done. we will be staying at caravan parks aswell- so recommendations or stay clears welcome there also. and we will be travelling with a small dog.
thanks Chris

There are some nice spots on the Lachlan River to the west of Forbes out past bedgerebong.

Darlington Point caravan park near Griffith is a nice bush caravan park

Bottle bend on the NSW side near Gol Gol is a great spot on the Murray.

Parkes to Forbes then follow the Lachlan Valley Way to Condobolin, Lake Cargellico and Hillston. A pretty drive and camping spots available along the way as the LVW was basically a "long paddock" or Travelling Stock Rourte.

Hilston to Hay to Balranald will allow to follow Mrrumbidgee River Towns, you can then pick up the Murrray at Euston/Robinvale.

We enjoyed that trip in reverse last month.

Parkes to Forbes then follow the Lachlan Valley Way through Condobolin, Lake Cargellico to Hillston. A very pretty drive and numerous camping spots as the LVW is basically a Travelling Stock Route. We found any number of spots with river access.

The next section, Hay, Balranald are Murrumbidgee Towns. Be sure to stop at Balranald Visitors Centre, lots of local info available, we were on a tight schedule and were only able to spend a couple of hours rather than a couple of days in the area. While at the visitor's centre be sure to get the key to the old Balranald Goal and have a look around.

From Balranald run down the Stuart Hwy and pick up the Murray River at Euston/Robinvale.
