Hi all just a quick question....
I got a explorist travel pack for my birthday but I can't seem to work out the mapping on my computer. The gps came with a sd tropo card but... do I have to buy a mapping programme for say hema maps to look at detailed maps on my lappy or can you transfer to maps on the gps onto the lappy or do I have to buy another sd card relating to what I want to do?
I have been pulling my hair out for the last couple of days trying to get my head around it
Rooey

I know stuff all about Magellen's [i'm Garmin] but I would expect to view the maps on the PC you would have to buy the map software on a CD and install it from that, I also would expect the SD card is only to provide the maps to the gps unit,
Maybe some Magellan owners can give you a much more detaioled answer,

use the gps in conjunction with explorz on your laptop or touchscreen , its pain i know but you cant get all the detail you want with just topo.

You can download Mapsend Lite from
here.
It runs on your PC and you can pick out waypoints, then download them to your Xplorist.
Or drop your waypoints/
routes on to your PC when you get home.

Rooey,
Not the answer you're looking for, but one of the reasons I gave Magellan the flick was because the Tropo maps was only available on an SD card and could not be loaded onto a PC.
I have a Magellan Meridian Platinum Marine handheld with both DiscoverOz and Great Desert Tracks loaded onto it. When the new verion of maps was in the planning stage, the rumour was that Magellan would provide an upgrade for a reasonable cost. That didn't prove to be the case and I decided I had invested enough, so now I have a "brick" and have since implemented alternative solutions.
I will not go near a Magellan product again.
Bill.

Rooey,
As has already been said download the most recent version of Mapsend. This allows you to do a lot of things including downloading your maps from the SD card. You can then work on them creating
routes, waypoints etc. You can also use mapsend as a moving map with the gps connected whilst you travel if you wish.
If it is a new unit then all the s/w should be on CD with it.
I have had an XL for 2.5 years and very happy with it and the s/w. The first version of the firmware was poor but after the free update 2y ago it is good.
I also have OziExplorer but find Mapsend quicker to use for what I want.
cheers
alastair

You need to download Mapsend Lite. You can then have the Explorist plugged into your PC and view the maps or copy them onto your hard drive. You can't transfer maps onto the original tropo SD card from memory as its copy protected. You may be able to load hemma maps onto another SD card, but I haven't tried it.
