csr trip

Just got back from 4weeks away traveling the csr including a few side treks.had a great time, weather was perfect except for a couple of windy days. The cruiser went well, had to weld up the bullbar at well41, mounting bracket had cracked near the crumple zone,..looked like it had started to fatigue on previous trips....anyway 3hrs later after a bit of welding and all was good again.fuel consumption was around 6.5 kms per lt.Track was heavily corrugated, but that was to be expected.Carnt wait to get over there and do the Pilbara area....but I'll take the camper then

cheers Peter

Milly

we did just over 2100kms on the csr including side treks,it tooks us 22 days.We came across a group with 4 campers and 2 solos...they were winching up a couple of the bigger dunes.the dunes would be the only reason I wouldnt take my camper...too much like hard work when I am there to enjoy the scenery. We did 1485 kms to well 33 which is the first fuel point from Wiluna...and took on 226lt of fuel

Glad you enjoyed it Peter. I did a bull bar in the same area on the Navara in 05. The metric fine thread on the mounting nuts is easily compressed and allowed just that little bit of movement. Any movement is too much out there.

I'm heading up to Gods country in a few weeks to spend some time in the Kulkyne and then out across the Raak to the border track.

Have you ever been up the Old Roo Roo Road north of Wentworth to Travellers lake? I was just wondering what access into Travellers and the Annabranch was like in the station country of that area.

Cheers. Mick

Peter

Well done, and congrats.

We have less than 12 months, before we head up to the Kimberley's, and then down the Canning, on out 3 month jaunt.

So I am keen to read any report, on successfully doing the trip.
by that I mean, with as minimal damage to your wheels.

Hopefully will be taking the Trak Shak, the CSR is 3 weeks of a 3 month trip, so we would like a little luxury.

Are the dunes as high as the Simpson, ?
I have heard not, but they are a longer climb, which will zap power, and chew up more fuel, if we tow.
The Trak Shak will take it, But But But ???

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

hi Bucky

As an owner of a trak shak myself I missed the comfort and convenience of having it when we were on the csr.....there were about 5 or 6 dunes that would have given us a bit of grief....would have had to winch up or be snatched up with another vehicle......the rest of the track would have presented no problems. One thing I would make sure of though would be that the suspension on the vehicle and the camper is in mint condition..as the corrugations will soon find the weak spots.

Cheers for that Peter

The Trak Shak is in great condition, and the Patrol had an OME lift kit, and is in tip top condition.

I will take any advice seriously, before we head off, but am prepared to drop tyre pressure down to 12 psi if I have too, and on the camper too.

Some history.

Whilst crossing the Simpson in 2004/2005, I meet up with a heap of Crew from Kadina in S.A. Yes the Yorke Peninsular Boys, headed by the one and only "Roachie".
There was only one dune in the Simpson that gave only one guy towing a trailer any grief, and he as easily snatched up the rest of the way. ( near the top )
I think tyre pressure was his problem, but I could be wrong.

Cheers Mate
And thanks for the advice, and don't ya just love those corrugations
