Anyone see this on Sunrise today,
Turntable
I have one of those storage boxes from Kmart full of LP's and few 45s and a 78rpm Regal Zonophone copy of "The Pub With No Beer" , unfortunatly it does not play at 78rpm, I have converted all the 45s and LPs many years ago but I was wondering maybe the reproduction quality using USB might be better , the thing is though at $299 once the conversion's are done what use it then,

I'll tell you what Doug....to me it would be worth paying the money and chucking the
turntable away when I'd finished, just to be able to get the music I've got stored away on vinyl.
I had started converting using a standard
turntable and some clever software but the quality doing it through the soundcard of the PC wasn't the best. (No equalisation correction in the soundcard for the compression used on vinyl records makes it sound tinny.)
I've got three milk crates and another similar sized box, all full of LPs dating back to the 50's (remember the Everley Brothers ...lol)
I think I'll buy one.
Cheers
Russ

Hi Doug T in the NT, No doubt the Sony unit would be good as most Sony kit is. You will note it is a belt drive with only a 2 speed 'box'. You can do better for the same money. I was in a WOW store in Bris last Sun.. They have a USB
turntable for $299 that is 'Direct Drive' with even a 78 speed. Colors black; White; Yellow. Also same brand has another unit, $399, looks same but extra features that you & I don't need. Both come with a good quality playing cartridge (remember the throw away needles on the wind up ones). Shure™ used to be the brand to buy, probably still is. I was going to buy it but had only 'carry on' baggage. They also do online sales. Check at www.1wow.com.au for the unit and local store. I left the brochure at home with it in. Safer there for my 'plastic'. Helps? I might even buy your old one when you finish,if not worn out. (It, not you;-) Lofty H

So much for my mssg above.. Went to order online from WOW & it does'nt show up. So I got onto "Spank' DJ supplies online & they sold me a Numarc TT USB
turntable incl. cartridge, freight free to my door for $399.. Will be good as one of our sons, a drummer, will love to have it after I do all my vinyls.. My first record collection was wrecked when my brother took them out to his bull dozer
camp & let the sun warp them. All these are like new as I only played them once to put them onto tape..Appears the software allows us to record at a much higher speed but archive at the correct speed...We'll see;-)

G'da Doug
ther is another option available although i can't find the info right now, which plugs into the RCA output of your
turntable and into the USB port on your computer. It is about $80.00 from memory
there was an article in the
Sydney Herald Monday Tv guide about 6 weeks ago

iPOD....they have a mini hard drive..thats something thats turning inside, plus you have have cables hanging around,
I use 4GB flash drives, can get 1800 songs on it +/- and it cannot jump because it has no working parts, No cables, it plugs direct into the USB port on the front of the car radio, there is also a GME car radio that has an SD slot as
well so 2 X 4GB gives around 3600 songs, does anybody need more than that.
GME RC90 Car Radio

if you Google for Xitel you will find an excellent unit for about $140 that combines software and cables and avoids the soundcard sound degradation issues. Can be plugged staright to rca outs on trurntable or tapedeck. There is actually a big demand for good quality turntgables again, so if sound quality matters to you, probably better to get a reasonable quality tt, you wont have too much of a problem selling it.

Last year I purchased a unit from Deals Direct that is able to directly record vinyl records 33,45,78 RPM to either SD card or USB Key thingo in MP3 format. Can also play CDs and record them to SD or USB also. It works
well; I have done all my old LPs and am looking at doing the old 45 singles and EPs next. Price has come down a bit since I bought
mine .Link follows

If you can get your records to me I can do it for you. I might have to keep a copy for myself tho'.
