I recently moved from NT back home to NSW.
Being a law abiding chap I registered my car in the NT and let my NSW rego lapse. That was my second mistake.
My first was putting an after market turbo on my troopy. When I came back to NSW I could not get a blue slip because my car was not stock standard.
That's because I had a turbo fitted. I was told I needed an emmissions control certificate.
I rang the mob that put the turbo on and they told me they did not have one because it would have cost too much and I should not have let my rego lapse.
I spoke to an engineer and he said the cheapest way out of this situation was to take the turbo off.
Thats what I did and then got the blue slip.
Two warnings. Only fit a turbo that comes with a compliance certificate,or don't let your NSW rego lapse.
Regards Bob

G'day Bob,
That seems to me to be unreasonable.
There must be 1000's of turbo charged vehicles on the roads in NSW.
Surely there is some recourse if the turbo was fitted in that state by a reputable fitter.
The vehicle seems pretty stock (not sure by your profile... Troopy 60 series!)
Maybe turbo-glide have some emission figures in other states that could be provided?
Just seems crazy when tyre size, lift, HID conversions, body lift and engine conversions get so much coverage.
Good luck,
Ross.

Rossco
I'm glad you mentioned my rig photo, cause I don't have one.
I don't know who's rig is in my profile, but it's not
mine!
I'll now try and delete it.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Regards Bob

Never heard of it before (emmissions control certificate). Is this some thing new ?? Wonder how people would go with lift kits (within reason) bullbars etc. Sounds like someone who has to justify there job position. Typical load of crap. I could understand if it had major mods, like a honda civic with a turbo on it, blow off valve,
wheels hanging out the guards and sitting so low to the ground you couldnt get over a speed bump, but a diesel troopy with an aftermarket turbo ?????????. Anyway glad to see you got it registered, welcome to NSW, probably a few other things you will get screwed over with as
well since you have been away. Regards Steve M

Sounds like a crock, how can a turbo create more emissions?
Its till the same exhaust gas!

Too many Polies living in NSW, I mean blue slip, pink slip, rego thus costs a bucket load over there.
I can completely relate to what you're saying. We moved to NSW from QLD. Our 80 Series had a Brunswicks Chev in it (installed in Qld) and we had all the paperwork including a Qld Engineers Certificate, but guess what, NSW wouldn't have that, we had to get another NSW engineer certificate before they would register it!
It was much simpler when we then moved over to WA! And cheaper too!

Oh and I bet you're paying even more due to the number of seats a troopy has, can't believe it was considered a "commercial vehicle" or something to that effect, thus an excuse to charge everyone who owns one more (
well in
Cobar anyway). We used to have a while back.

Yeah, at one stage I was told I had to put the back seats in before it could pass.
The bull bar, 8" rims etc didn't rate a mention.

I do NSW blue slip & if it is not a factory option it needs engineers certificate .That the NSW rule and if RTA do an audit of my inspection station ,which they must audit every Blue slip station once a year. I loose my blue ability for at least one month.Yes I have lost the ability to any rego's for one month it HURTS.

Hi there Graham, you say "if it is not a factory option it needs engineers certificate " so does that include say a bullbar, eg Toyota sell their own but what if you fitted an ARB bar, is that still classed as a modification ?? Just curious to what they class as a modification as far as going for a blue slip. I know generally adding or changing anything at all is a mod but was just wondering how far the rta go before your talking certificates. Regards Steve M

Stephen M (NSW) posted:
It doesn't matter what brand the accessory is so ARB bar is ok.
You can even fit a sun roof
Engine capacity increased by 15%
rims by 25mm
Remove any number of rear seats from troppy
Wheeltrack by 25mm all without engineers certificate
But after market seats e.g. Recaro need engineers certificate.
