To anyone who read my post last week about driving the TD V8 Troopy back from Cairns to Brissy, you can all rest assured it was not mine and I was only to be the driver, I must admit to being very interested and looking forward to the drive though. Turns out the city slicker who described the vehicle to me didn't know a bash plate from his dinner plate as the vehicle was a base spec 100 series with the 1HZZzzzzzzzz motor so the much anticipated drive went to a "Damn I got to drive this back to Brissy?" trip. Anyway, the prospect of my new GU arriving on Tuesday was enough for me to test the "top speed" of these old dinosaur donks on the way back and I made it home in record time considering the work I had to do on the way back. You can work it out by my fuel figures....best was 16.6lt per 100km in an almost empty cruiser no roof racks no trailers no nothing, worst was 17.1lt per 100km not that my speed altered much all the way home.

I have now got my shinny new GU (an 01 model) in the driveway but the poor old thing doesn't know what hit it. It has done 8000km in the last two years but since Tuesday I have clocked up over 1500 already. The old green one (a 00 model) still resides proudly in the driveway also and will stay there for many a year to come as my better half will be donated this trusty rig to carry her and the kids safely around town......until I need to let off some steam, then I will reclaim it for a weekend LOL!!

Roachie your nightmare can stop mate, you should never have doubted my conviction to the Nissan badge. Unlike some pretend Nissan owners, even the hearts of my Nissan's remain Nissan.....not bloody Chev, Renault or bloody Toyota for Pete's sake (Couldn't help myself Colin LOL!!).

Cheers, Trevor.

Give me a bit of credit Willem, of course it is a 4.2. Hence my comments about the "pretend" Nissan owners with Renault hearts LOL!! I will hopefully update the rig profile tonight with a full run down of the new car and pics up as soon as it stops raining and I stop driving the bloody thing. It needs to be still to take a photo of it, but it ain't stopped since I bought it hehehe.

Cheers, Trevor.

Hey Trev - were you in a hurry?

The 1HZ in my 80 series GXL did 11.8 travelling between Sydney & Brissy, and only 13.8 hooning all over Fraser. And it was loaded with camping gear and food etc for a couple of weeks away.

If you know how to anticipate the gear the vehicle will need ahead of time, you can keep up a good clip up and down hill and stay below 13.

I reckon you set out to prove that the sows ear GU was really a silk purse!

LOL

Max, If I know Trevor, you can rest assured the poor fuel economy had nothing to do with being Toyota's fault .... hahahaha

More to do with wringing-out every last neddie from that poor old hunk of cast iron!!!! hahahaha. My guess is that it will need to pay a visit to the panel beater shop now to get the driver's side inner guard bashed back into the correct position from where the accelerator pedal was trying to reach the tyre!!!! hahaha

Good onya Trev for keeping up the Nissan ownership 100%. I'm glad we have YOU to wave the flag and make up for all the rest of us traitors who only like to rely on the bullet-proof Nissan drive train.

Cheers....hahahaha

Pretty much on the money Roachie, not all Toyota's fault with fuel economy hehehe. I was surprised to find out the old 1HZzzzzzz was not so lazy in the top end department, it actually topped out a little higher than my GU. I reckon the mob that had the hire vehicle before me had wound the fuel screw right up, it was long term rented to some mob and I had to drive it back to Brissy so the rental mob could send it through the auctions for some poor unsuspecting soul to buy it.

Max the Sow's ear GU for the same money as this base model cruiser had such unneccessary things like a/con, cloth seats and carpet for god's sake.....who need those bloody luxuries hey? I don't think I need to prove anything when it comes to which vehicle is the silk purse LOL!!!! Toyota wins there, they go well with the skirt wearing drivers they seem to attract ;-)))))

Cheers, Trevor.

Hi Dave,

Yep cruiser was struggling to suck enough air in to keep up with the fuel I was forcing down it's throat......much more and I would have removed the air filter to help out hehehe, was only a renter remember!!!

Regards,
Trevor.

Hi Brian,

Pretty hard to deny my faith with 3 x 4.2 Patrols in the driveway. The oldest, an 89 GQ is for sale though, so soon will be 2.

Cheers, Trevor.

Good Choice , but try the 4800 next time Trevour , its still faster than than 200 series , and has the same fuel use as your recent drive. Be warned though, it would be hard for you to donate it to your "Better half" during the week.

Geez Robin, any faster than the 4.2 and I would end up like that joker in WA driving the Porsche LOL!!! Main reason I chose the 4.2, I really don't trust myself and I need my licence too much to drive anything with "real" power.

I have always kept an open mind on the 4.8's and if a real cracker had turned up before this new 4.2, I probably would have went that way.

Best regards,
Trevor.
