Well I've now booked my campsite at Willow Springs for 27th & 28th Sept. Just me, oh and the wife & kids. We are doing Skytrek on the Sunday and moving on on Monday morning. I have traveled the Flinders extensively but I'm sure there are some places that people don't go to.

So where are the 'out of the way' places? Whats the drive from Bunyeroo Valley, north between the ABC & Heysen Ranges like?

Cheers

Cheers Willem. Warraweena & Nuccaleena Mine - Saw quite a bit of this area by 4wd, motorbike and helicopter years ago because of work, but didn't really have the time to enjoy it as such. But it might be a good trip to take the family on.

Chambers Gorge & Wearing Gorge- Yep. I was under the understanding Chambers Gorge is now closed to 4wd's? Is this correct?

Back road from Mooloowatana to Lyndhurst - haven't done that. Traveled back to Lyndhurst past that way a few years back but was in , a hurry as we had no spare tyres, so didn't detour to see anything.

Whats the best way to get to Patawarta Gap?

Obviously done all the popular spots many times, including an survey of Wilpena Pound by air and motorbike, as well as driving through Glass Gorge every day for a couple of weeks. I reckon I've traversed most of the Parachilna map.

Thanks Willem.

Access to Patawarta Gap is around 11km east of Blinman as I recall.Turn off at the raod to Narrina Station. It is a PAR. On the way back you can go via Hannigans Gap to Moolooloo.

Warraweena is an Advertiser here on EO so go and check it out in TREKS. I did all the digital mapping for Warraweena.

I drove into Chambers Gorge on the way back from Innamincka and went as far as is allowed. I did see however that tracks continued east along the gorge in the creekbed. It is quite a pleasant drive in.

Road from Mooloowatana via Terrapinna Springs and Mt Fitton is rough in places and you will need 4x4. Then there ias Arkaroola, Echo Camp Backtrack and Paralana Springs all good places to visit and a bit of 4x4 involved. There are also a few nice tracks in Gammon Ranges NP.

Drop in for a cuppa on your way past :-)

Cheers

Willem, I see that Patawarta Gap & Artimore are on a PAR (4 & 5). Who does one contact to get access? You can get in via 3 different ways by the look of it, Moolooloo, Narrina, or off the main road at Angorigina Hill, via Nildottie Gap, and along Artimore Creek. Or is this 'free access'?

BTW, thanks for the offer of the cuppa. Might take you up on that if time permits.

The Artimore Track(passes by Artimore Ruins on the track I mentioned) route does not require permission and the section to Patawarta Gap is a there and back bit (some wheel lifting stuff as I recall) as the gate is closed at the Gap. I recall that the track swings away aftwer Angorigina Hill and before Nildottie Gap to the ruins. You may get permission from the owner of Narrina Station and the Manager at Warraweena(locked gate) to drive from Patawarta Gap to Warraweena. Its a nice easy drive. Camping fees apply at Warraweena. Track fees are discounted if you camp there.

Or once back on the Artimore Track go via Hannigans Gap to Moolooloo and back through Glass's Gorge.

Hi there,

I've been following your thread and noted you are coming up our way soon! I hope you enjoy Sky Trek, we thought it was fantastic! I haven't done the trek from Warraweena to Patawarta but look forward to doing it one day...it's amazing what's in your back yard that you just don't get around to doing!

Spring is a great time of year in the Flinders Ranges, the "A Brush With Art" Festival runs through out September. I noted you said your wife and children were tagging along and thought this might appeal to them!

Have a great trip, give a toot on your way past!!

Try the "Phantom - ghost who walks" aka Skull Rock at the end of Skytrek. Quiet location, old mines around the remarkable structure, whose trees reminded me of the talking trees on Lord of The Rings movie.

Do the Worumba circuit including Mt Plantaganet, which peaks only just below the height of Mt Carnarvon on SkyTrek. Many of the Flinders' geographic icons are easily visible from its summit.

Climb ( by walking trail) Mt Browne at the end of the Richman Valley, SSW of Quorn.

Do the Mt Buggery Gorge run...great views to Lake Torrens and a tiny gorge, just one vehicle wide, to encounter.

Cheers

Friends of the family live at the end of Richman's Valley. I learned to ride a motorbike there when I was a kid. Crashed into the fence 1st time on. LOL. That's a nice spot, particularly the waterfall, though last time I was there (about 14 years ago) it was a real mess - rubbish everywhere.
