Hi all can anyone help with the correct way to store water filter cartridge between trips?

Purchased one at the last Sydney caravan show but have been given conflicting info by suppliers. One said to let it fully dry in the sun then wrap in gladwrap and store in the freezer compartment. This is what I have been doing. The other said don't let it dry and just store in fridge - not freezer. Have looked on net but so far unable to find anything.

For what it's worth. I'm running a double filter with a pre cleaner then a .05 micron cylinder filter. I was advised at the time of purchase to let the .05 unit dry in the sun and then to store in the freezer. That's what I've been doing since.

Cheers.

Thanks Mick - mine is also supposed to be .05 micron but there is nothing on it to indicate this.

Suppose I will soon find out if the info re storage is right as we are heading off next week - any funny tummies will be sheeted home to the filter!!

Chawbie,

What the bloke at the filter place told me was that if you're filtering fairly crappy water (which I was), then microbes that are trapped within the filter can still survive/grow even if the filter is dried out. Freezing the filter once dry prevents any growth etc between uses. I used mine three times over a period of 6 weeks to filter roughly 500 litres of water and stored in the engel freezer between each use. I had no drama's. Did a great job on the filtering. Even took the brown tannin colour out!

Cheers Mick.

I recently purchased a 2-stage water filter setup and I was adviced to store the 2 filters in the fridge while not in use. This is a Roadsafe water filter.

So if you use the CT on average every 2 or 3 weeks, you have to take the cartridge out and dry it and store it ??

Is this all cartridges or only some ??

Was thinking of getting a filter for the CT ,but this sounds more trouble than its worth...

hey blokes,

how much do these filters cost anyway?? Is it such a problem to just throw them away when you finish your trip? And buy a new one for the next trip? $20, 30 or 40 bucks? is it worth the risk of using contaminated filters again?

You might have a point Ian but some of the better ones are rated up to 10000 litres capacity and it could become quite expensive to replace after each trip if only short.

Seems like we need advice from an expert.
