Hi, We're travelling from Melbourne up to Birdsville early on 18th Oct 08 and then crossing the Simpson to Dalhousie on 21st Oct 08.
We're a single vehicle at the moment and for safety's sake we'd like to hook-up with at least one other vehicle for the Simpson crossing. We plan on taking three days to cross and will be camping at Poeppel Corner, a mid-way bush camp andDalhousie Springs in that order and then upto Alice over the next two days.
If anyone Has a similar itinerary and would like to join us, or would like an extra truck allong to help with their crossing please send an email to dterry22@ford.com and we can go from there......

Thanks in advance , Doug .

If you can be a little flexible with departure date, wait until you are at Birdsville and ask around there, Unbackable odds are that some one else is doing the same.
I did!

I was about to suggest the same thing as Shane, although late October may see a bit less activity.

Have a good trip

Hi Kim and Shane,
Yeah, I agree with both of you. Unfortunately time constraints have forced us into these dates. Maybe less traffic'll be a good thing (glass half full ).
If you have any gem places to watch out for please suggest away ...

Thanks, Doug .

Gidday Doug

My preference has always been the Rig Rd rather than the French Line. The latter is ok but gets a bit too busy for my liking.

I can't find my old Simpson Desert map, but at the bottom end of the Rig Rd, we turn off south and follow the swails for 5-10Klms and camp for a few days.

Nothing like a bit of peace and quiet.

Regards

Kim

What is the expected temperature there in October??

Saw it was 36 in Darwin yesterday.

rekon you will be in the high 30s, low 40s by then.

Hey Trainslux,
I'm kinda hoping it'll be as the Trecknotes suggest http://www.exploroz.com/TrekNotes/Deserts/Simpson_Desert_French_Line.aspx but you never can tell what's gonna happen on the day !!!

Ta, Doug .
