I recently bought a new Engel MT45F-G4-S and on switching it on was disappointed in the amount of noise it made.I can hear it now,3 rooms away. The last Engel I had was the model before the LCD temperature display was fitted, and was very quiet even when running in a poptop troopy. This present model would keep you awake or result in a heavy session of sleeping draught!

I have had it looked at by an Engel repairer who informed me that they are noisier due to the lower amperage they draw?He did resecure a faulty motor mount...seems quality control is declining. Anyone else with the latest model noticed an increase in the noise level?

Our 40 litre Engel is 18 months old, and its very quite, It has the
Protective Cover, and is mounted in the back of the truck on a
Engel Fridge Slide, and it goes non stop. maybe you should get a
second opinion.

i have heard of a few complaints since engel started to get there motors made in china.
you know what they say
you get what you pay for.not you engel.
you get chineese to build something you get chineese quality
or lack there of.

I don't believe that.

The Chinese are capable of building to the highest quality possible.
It depends on the acceptable standards set between the manufacturer and the wholesaler/importer.

It is an unfortunate fact of life that many "Iconic" product brands have moved their manufacturing process offshore.

I was astounded a few days ago when looking at an article of clothing with the RM Williams label on it.
Yep, you guessed it. "Made in China" on the bottom of the label.

Bloody Hell!

Hi Geoff glad to know I am not making things up!... I got my series 2 Mt45 at Christmas last year and I also find it very noisy. I removed part of the rear cover and put pressure with my hand on the Swing motor and it quitened it down heaps. Mine seems to be because of the mounting and insulation of the swing motor. Been lazy and still haven't had it in for repair... Hopefully they will still cover it under warranty for me.

Cheers Brad

G`day Geoff,
I had the c/van fridge replaced with an Engel SR90F just after last Xmas. It has the swing motor which is very efficient but also very noisy, I turn it off at night so I can get some sleep.
I will be interested to see what remedies, if any, that others may have.

Scrubby.

Have purchased two of the units (Engel MT45F-G4-S) in question within the last 6 weeks and can only state that they are as quiet (if not quieter) as my exisitng two Engels a 60 (about 5 years old) and a 29 (around 15 years) ....no problems as all

seems as though there must be an issue with yours? Engel distributor is in WA why not speak with them?

fogot to add about your comment from your repairer

"I have had it looked at by an Engel repairer who informed me that they are noisier due to the lower amperage they draw"

IMO this sounds like he hasnt a clue what he is talking about

I have a variety of fridges around the house and garage

House:
Newish Simpson Freezer. When on high cooling mode it sounds like a little man is inside with a hammer(or a bloke riding a single cylinder motorbike). Contacted Electrolux but they say thats the way they are made to run. Freezer very efficient

Garage:
32litre Engel 5 years old with Two Zone. Extremely quiet. Very efficient fridge
40 litre Waeco. Very quiet but sounds a bit like Darth Vader breathing sometimes
15 litre Engle 1985 model. Very noisy due to old age and many bushtracks

Maybe you Engel needs to be taken to a different fridgie for a second opinion

Cheers
