Does anybody know where to get an 'Autofridge" repaired in Adelaide? Preferably someone who is an agent rather than one who "reckons this could be the problem" and will fix it for $1,000. I don't need to be advised that I should buy and Engel, Waeco or any other fridge thanks.

Adelaide Offroad on the Parade at Norwood.
They don't fix them themselves, but send them interstate to the manufacturer.
Grab yourself a big jar of vaseline and be prepared to bend over....you are going to be reamed bigtime.

Cheers

Adelaide Off Road moved from the Parade some time ago.

They are located at 65-67 Nelson Street Stepney.

Why not just phone the manufacturer direct and get the correct information from them...
just a simple thought - but I'm simple anyway
(think I left that wide open - but who cares)

You obviously haven't tried contacting them (Quirks) since being taken over by Conenergy. Neither phone calls or emails get any response. Quirks now only deal with industrial refrigeration and have no interest in the Autofridge telling me to try someone else i.e. conenergy.

Have you tried someone like Gordon Brothers (for example)? They are refrigeration experts. Mainly commercial & industrial but you never know. We used them where I worked previously to repair our customers refrigeration dryers. They are very good to put it simply. Maybe they can't (read won't) do it but they might, or they may put you on to someone. Worth a go. Rob is one of the guys there. They at Regency Park. Always seemed reasonably priced for what they do as well. No affiliation, just a satisfied former customer.

Or try here. Conergy

I'm not in Adelaide but WA and I am an Autofridge owner who has had experience with repairing these fridges. My fridge developed a problem a few years back where the compressor woud run but no cooling would take place. This was due to leaving the fridge idle for a few years allowing the seals to deteriorate.

I searched all around Perth for someone with the expertise to repair the fridge but due to the eutectic design, no one would take the job on. In the end I rang the manufacturers Quirks ( energy today) in NSW and arranged to send the fridge back to them for repairs. It cost about $700 to fix but they upgraded the fridge to have a cooling fan for the motor which improves the efficiecy quite a bit. It has been absolutely fantastic since the repairs and I consider the repair job costly but worthwhile. At the end of the day I could have gone and bought a Waeco or some other cheapy but in hot places like WA, SA, NT, etc you can't beat the Autofridge IMHO.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark ,

I had exactly the same experience with my 40 litre Autofridge . Perhaps they should warn owners about this a bit more emphatically , as it is a bloody expensive repair .

I think the eutectic fridges are way better than "normal" car fridges in power useage / efficiency , but you have to be diligent in running them a couple of times a year to keep that coolant gel in good condition .

I recently upgraded to the 73 litre Autofridge and am very happy with it .

Willie .

Also an Autofridge owner and very happy with it. I've had mine for nearly 15 years now and use it at home as a beer fridge to avoid the problem with the seals drying out.

A mate of mine also bought one and I told him to use it as often as he could but of course he didn't and the thing died a few years later when he finally decided to fire it up for his CSR trip.....consequently he now bags this type of fridge! Can't please some people.

Might try and get it off him and get it repaired for a freezer!

Cheers,

Mark

Reading your post yesterday reminded me to check mine. I have mine running 24/7 for 13 years. So I did last night. Guess what? The compressor's working (was replaced 2yrs ago for $830) but the inside of the box is warm and the outside heat dispersment panels are cold.

This morning I phoned Lyons Airconditioning Services here in Perth who repair Autofridges, (me thinking the Eutectic side is stuffed and cost zillions to fix) the bloke said it could just need regassing but won't know until its checked out. I'm hoping thats all it is.

I had my Autofridge checked out last night by a mates friend (refrigeration expert) and yes it was out of gas. He regassed it and now its running a charm. Cost $50.
