Hello
I have decided to go the Prado VX over the Discovery 3.
I was wondering when the best time would be to buy one?
Does anyone know if they are coming out with a new shape soon?
Have had a look at pradopoint.com and there are just allot of mixed statements.
Just a few other questions:
- Should i wait till the end of year so i get the 09 model?
- Are there any pro's / con's with the auto or manual (or is it just personal)
- What is a good price to get a prado VX for drive away on the road
Thank you for all you help
Cheers
Brent

I bought my 07 Patrol at the end of last year. Because the car will be "last years model" in a few months you have some pretty good leverage to do some some wheeling and dealing. We got bullbar,
driving lights and towbar (part of nissan's sweetener) + we haggled in the extended warranty and on-road costs for
well under the RRP for the vehicle itself. This works only if they have an overstock of the vehicles that they need to get rid of, problem is at that stage there was a three month wait on the Prado (we looked at them too but couldn't go past the Patrol) so you may not be as lucky.
If you are going to keep this vehicle for a long time then in ten or fifteen years it won't really matter that much whether it is an '08 or '09 model as far as resale value goes, however if you change out your vehicles frequently then maybe rethink that tack.
As for price have a look on discountnewcars.com.au you may find a few bargains floating around. If not you may atleast get a good idea of price, just remember be extreme in you bargaining with the dealer, ask for lots of extra's to be thrown in - worst they can say is no.

Why not a look at the Grande instead of the vx, different
suspension and a few more goodies to make life easier and more comfortable.
Go for Auto if you are not going to bush bash much better.
Also try for a demo model it will save you a lot of money and usually with extras thrown in.

Grande definitely has all the bells and whistles, but dont you pay for it! My father in law bought the 07 turbo diesel auto GXL and absolutely loves it. Great 4wd for alot less money. Also unless you are set on a manual, autos are arguably better for 4wding aswell. Most who have been on sand or mud would appreciate the auto.

I bought my VX in 2005. I had it delivered with bullbar, towbar, BFG AT tyres, Exide Extreme N70EX battery and a few other minor items. I bought through a broker (www.carbroker.com.au, in
Melbourne - I'm in
Canberra). The delivered price (from a
Sydney dealer, with the vehicle registered in the ACT) was $63.5k, which was more than $10k below list price with my options. I paid the broker $55 to find the best deal on offer. I was very happy with the outcome, and the car has been a winner.
Toyota usually has a sale in June, so you have missed that. Don't know about any model update coming - like you, I read the rumours.
I chose a VX rather than a Grande because I did not want leather trim, an opening roof, a built-in GPS or air bags. I note that leather is now standard on the VX.
Good luck. You have chosen a good vehicle.

Brent,
I am on my third Prado, the second Grande and they are a good comfortable vehicle, we travel every two years into the outback with a group of five other vehicles Grande 2, VX 1, GXL 1 and two land cruisers, the Prados have been to
Cape York OTL track,
Goog's track, Finke track ,
Simpson Desert and many other areas of OZ and never faulted. They are all Auto's and with you getting the VX you will get DAC which is fantastic downhill assist, and traction control etc. Price that's up to you Brent but honestly forget all the rubbish between other vehicles as it depends on how you drive any vehicle, but Prado is a reliable comfortable vehicle, good luck Brent and enjoy your vehicle.
