Hi all,

We are going on a small trip in a few weeks and I was wanting some feed back.
We're leaving from Brissy and heading for cunnamulla then travelling along the Adventure Way to Innamincka. We're then heading from Innamincka to Camerons Corner (wanting to know what the Old Strezlecki Track is like) then back to Brisbane via Tibooburra, Bourke and so on.

Just wanting to know how other ppl found this trip (if they've done it which Im sure they have) and what the roads are like out there, also how much time is needed. i know you could prob spend ages out there but we're kinda limited with time. Also, roughly how far is it from Innamincka to the corner (just trying to work out fuel).

Any info would be great...Oh and we're leaving in 2 weeks.

Cheers,
Demc

Merty Merty to the corner ( if still dead smooth like last year ) is a highlight I'll never forget......over those crests at 100K's ( we had a spotter out in front ) towing a CT had the females in stitches ( and their lunch working upwards )..

Best piece of dirt road in Australia !!

I reckon that section would be good for a Rally- some of those WRC cars would 'get air' for 100 metres !!!!!!!

I have never actually measured the distance from Inaminka to the Corner, maybe 250km. Innaminka to the Hill is about 645km (via the Bore Track would be a bit more via the Old Strez.)

It is an easy half day. I have done Innaminka to the Hill in a day at least 3 times.

As you have suggested Demc take your time, be prepared to stop, get out and have a look at things and most improtantly talk to people, especially the locals.

There is excellent camping at the side of the road between Cameron's and Tib, its better closer to the corner. There is a CV park in TIb and as has been suggested Dead Horse is good. The other place that is worth a look is Mount Wood just out of Tib.

If you are going from Tib to Bourke allow a full day and if you have time check out Reola station and the Big Shed. (There is infor on the RM Williams web site.)

That is my favourite part of the world, at the moment, wish I was going with you.

Sorry, I thought that was a common abreviation.

It's Broken Hill. Small town 380km south of Tibooburra just near the SA/NSW border.

G'day H 'n D, just back from Brisbane, St.George, Thargominda,Innamincka for the Birdsville races. From Noccundra ( call in to this pub!) to Innamincka the road was very corrugated ( it hammered my roofrack through the gutters!) this was after some rain, may be better now, slow & steady is best. Purchase Hema map from Eo of "Great Desert Tracks - South East Sheet" will be a great help down to the corner, have a great trip!! seee yaa, dingo

The Old Strzelecki Track from Innamincka to Merty Merty junction is much better to drive on than the new Strzelecki Track, which is rubble based and quite corrugated in places between Innamincka and Moomba.

The Old Track's base is predominately dirt and is quite an interesting and enjoyable drive.
The track becomes almost a highway as you near Merty Merty junction due to the bore fields in this area.

Only if it rains would you need to change your route.

Bill.

Just a thought, the Bore Track was a nice drive in my opinion, well worth the look but I haven't done the Old Strez so cannot compare the two. Was no diesel at the corner when we were there (end July) so budget for similar just in case. I did, Brissy - Noccundra- Corner - Innaminka - Thargomindah and straight back to Brissy in 10 or 11 days. I would have liked more but we have to work with what we got hey? 6 days at Innaminka was probably bare minimum in my opinion.

Safe and happy travels.

Yep the surrounding area. We based at Innaminka and day tripped without the caravan.

1. 1 day to Coongie lakes.
2. 1 day out at Cullyamurra Waterhole/ Aboriginal Rock Carvings at end of 4km walk plus seen Burke's Grave on this day too.
3. 1 day out to dig tree and surrounds
4. 1 day to Wills Grave and other waterholes close by.
5. 1 day around Innaminka itself.
6. 1 day chatting to other ExploreOz members at this years gathering out there.

6 days filled up very quickly in my opinion.
Hope it helps.
Trevor.
