Hi guys,
we now have a fairly new Toyota Kluger with 4WD. Not a real off-roader we know, but sometimes we all have to compromise.
We are planning our first big trip in January next year.
From
Sydney, where we live, to
Adelaide. There put the car on the Indian-Pacific. We even have to leave our rooftop tent at home, as it would exceed the hight limit (another compromise hehe).
We are planning to get off at Kalgoorlie and then travel to
Exmouth. Now our question: is this possible with the Kluger? Is there a road, and if yes, should we tackle it?
Can you give us a tip? And are there road maps?
Thank you. Debbie & Paul

When we looked into taking a vehicle on the Indian Pacfic we discovered that they didn't unload vehicles at Kalgoolie, passengers could disembark there but all vehicles went to
Perth? This was a few years ago, so the info might be out of date but worth double checking.

yep Kal to
Exmouth in a Kluger would be ideal
Probabally follow the golden quest discovery trail to
menzies then the menzies/
sandstone road then to Meekathara and on to canarvon via landor and gacoyne
junction hen follow the cost bitumen.
If you havnt alread light truck rated tyres would be a must however otherwise th Kluger should be ideal

How much time are you planning on taking? The whale sharks probably won't be around until at least April.

Just a few days. Hm, no whale sharks until April. I guess we will have to come back on our tour around Australia once we are retired.
Will there be dolphins, may I ask?

Whale sharks are between April - July. The turtles are nesting on the beaches in January. The temperature in January will be around the 40 deg mark give or take a few deg. There is also the chance of a cyclones that time of year.

Paul I would not worry too much about cyclones here in
Exmouth in January, February/March are the months too worry about.
The temperatures will be in the low to mid 40's on the
Exmouth side of the peninsula, on the western side of the Cape the temperatures are generally milder and the nights are cooler.
If you need any more info let me know have lived here for seven years so can point you in the right direction to do the tourist thing.
Regards
Mark
